The Black Hats parade in Genoa in one of Italy's largest gatherings
The National Gathering of the Alpini is the annual event of the National Association of Alpini, one of the largest popular gatherings in Italy. In 2026, the 97th edition was held in Genoa, attracting a huge participation of Black Hats from every region of the country.
The gathering spans three days: May 8th and 9th dedicated to commemorative masses, official ceremonies, exhibitions, and meeting opportunities, and Sunday, May 10th, reserved for the grand final parade through the city streets. The Alpini Citadel, set up at Giardini Brignole, served as the event's focal point.
The gathering is much more than a parade: it is a moment of remembrance, of celebrating alpine values, and of solidarity. Among the collateral initiatives, an exhibition dedicated to the alpine sculptor Eugenio Baroni was hosted at the Museum of the Ligurian Academy. President Mattarella recalled the indissoluble bond that unites the Black Hats to the country.
Hosting the National Gathering of the Alpini was an event of exceptional magnitude for Genoa, with hundreds of thousands of attendees and an extraordinary impact on the city. For three days, the Ligurian capital transformed into a grand collective embrace, filled with choirs, Italian flags, and the unmistakable alpine spirit.
