Conferences and guided tours of Corciano's fortified heritage
The National Castles Days are the event promoted throughout Italy by the Italian Institute of Castles to enhance fortified heritage. In Corciano, in the province of Perugia, the Umbria Section of the Institute dedicates a weekend to the discovery of the medieval village and its monuments, among the most evocative in Umbria.
The heart of the event is a scientific conference dedicated to the history and architecture of the Corciano area, with the participation of scholars, historians, and architects. The meetings are held in the evocative Sala del Vecchio Mulino, within the medieval walls of the village.
The protagonist of the guided tours is the Castello della Pieve del Vescovo, an imposing fortified structure built in the first half of the 13th century, which was the residence of the bishops of Perugia. The extraordinary openings allow visitors to admire areas normally not accessible, accompanied by experts from the Institute.
The Castles Days raise public awareness about the knowledge and protection of Italy's historical-architectural heritage. In Corciano, the initiative is also an opportunity to rediscover a village that holds valuable Renaissance works, including paintings by Perugino.
The XXVII edition of the National Castles Days brings a weekend of events to Corciano on May 16 and 17, 2026. On Saturday, May 16, the conference dedicated to "Corciano. Fortified village of art and altitude" will be held in the Sala del Vecchio Mulino, coordinated by Mario Squadroni and focusing on the Castello della Pieve del Vescovo, with contributions from scholars Giovanni Riganelli, Paolo Belardi, Federico Munzi, and Luciano Taborchi. In the afternoon, a guided tour of the Castello della Pieve del Vescovo (by reservation) will be conducted by art history professor Arianna Berioli. Extraordinary free openings are planned.
