The widespread Christmas festival of Rome's Municipio XIII Aurelio
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Natale in Tredicesimo is the festival through which the Municipio Roma XIII Aurelio, on behalf of Roma Capitale, accompanies the neighborhood throughout the holiday season. Rather than a single main stage, it is a widespread program that weaves together churches, local markets, historic villas, theaters, and squares: from the first events in December to Epiphany, the Aurelio district transforms into a journey of music, theater, and games open to all ages. It is the winter version of rEstate in Tredicesimo, the sister summer festival promoted by the same municipality.
Local churches host a series of musical events that bring the warm sounds of gospel to the heart of the community. Past venues have included the church of San Pio V and the church of Santa Rita da Cascia in Casalotti, featuring free evening concerts subject to seat availability. The spiritual and musical dimensions blend in an intimate atmosphere, typical of a Roman Christmas.
The beating heart of the festival is the local indoor markets: the Mercato Irnerio and the Mercato San Silverio transform into true neighborhood stages, featuring live music, creative workshops, shows, and activities for children and families. It is a way to rediscover local shopping venues as spaces for social interaction and celebration, where generations can meet.
The program extends to the area's green and cultural spaces. At Villa Carpegna, a 17th-century residence acquired by the City of Rome and returned to the public, the Giardino delle Fiabe (Fairy Tale Garden) comes to life with storytelling, workshops, and concerts dedicated to children. There are also events in Piazza Santa Maria alle Fornaci, at the Teatro Aurelio in Largo San Pio V, and at the Ex Campari Cultural Center, featuring theatrical performances on social themes such as anti-bullying.
The calendar reserves its most anticipated moments for the little ones. In the days leading up to Christmas, children can meet Santa Claus amidst games, balloons, face painting, and elves, with fake snow and soap bubble shows. The cycle concludes on January 6th with the grand Befana festival: stockings, snacks tossed into the air, broomstick treasure hunts, and the magic of Epiphany in the square.
All events of Natale in Tredicesimo are free to attend, with reservations recommended for shows with limited capacity. The festival, rooted in Rome's Aurelio district in the Lazio region, is designed as a gift from the Municipality to its residents: a local Christmas that highlights markets, parishes, associations, and cultural venues, strengthening the sense of belonging to the local community.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition of Natale in Tredicesimo is not yet available. The official calendar is usually published by the Municipio Roma XIII Aurelio in the weeks preceding the holidays. For updates, it is recommended to check the official municipal channels and the official Facebook page.
