Eighty years of tradition and solidarity in the heart of the Biella region
In the heart of the Biella region, at the foot of the Serra moraine, the small village of Muzzano in the Province of Biella (Piedmont) preserves one of the most deep-rooted carnival traditions in the area. The Muzzano Charity Carnival traces its roots back to 1946, and in 2026 it reaches the milestone of its 79th edition, celebrating eighty years of history defined by participation, conviviality, and generosity.
The event is organized by the Pro Loco of Muzzano, the heart of the village's community life, which every year renews a ritual that brings together residents, families, and friends from neighboring hamlets around time-honored flavors and customs.
What makes this Carnival special is its charitable vocation: as the name suggests, the festival is charitable, and the proceeds from the activities are donated to support the community and solidarity initiatives. Participating in the Muzzano Carnival therefore means combining the pleasure of a day in good company with the tangible contribution to a good cause.
The festival begins with Holy Mass at the Parish Church, a sign of the deep bond between the Carnival and the religious life of the village. The most anticipated moment is the distribution of the fagiolata (bean soup) in Piazza degli Alpini: this hearty bean soup, a signature dish of Piedmontese carnivals, is blessed and offered as a takeaway to all attendees. The day concludes with the convivial Carnival lunch, which brings the community together at the table.
The Muzzano Charity Carnival is part of the rich tradition of carnivals in the Biella area, where the fagiolata is the common thread linking dozens of towns in the region. In Muzzano, this custom has remained intact for generations, becoming a hallmark of the entire community's identityโan event that, for nearly a century, has never been cancelled, not even in bad weather.
The 79th edition of the Muzzano Charity Carnival, held on Sunday, February 15, 2026, marked a symbolic milestone: eighty years of history since 1946. The Pro Loco of Muzzano presented the traditional program, including Holy Mass, the blessing and distribution of the bean soup in Piazza degli Alpini, and the convivial lunch, confirming the charitable nature of the festival even in this special edition.
The event took place regularly even in case of bad weather.
