Musikfest of the Josef Leitgeb Band (Anterselva di Sotto)

A band festival in the heart of the Anterselva Valley

The Musikfest der Musikkapelle Josef Leitgeb is the summer music festival organised by the brass band (Musikkapelle) of Anterselva di Sotto (Antholz Niedertal), a village in the municipality of Rasun-Anterselva (Rasen-Antholz), in the province of Bolzano, in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. The event takes place at the local music pavilion in the heart of the Anterselva Valley and is one of the most cherished highlights of the valley's summer season.

Two days of music and conviviality

The programme spans two days. On Saturday, the festival kicks off in the late afternoon with performances by one or more guest bands, followed in the evening by a dance music ensemble that keeps guests entertained until late at night. On Sunday, the day continues with a parade (Festumzug), lunch under the covered marquee, and a series of concerts by bands and musical groups that bring the pavilion to life until the evening, when the grand lottery draw takes place.

Guest bands and South Tyrolean brass tradition

In keeping with the tradition of South Tyrolean band festivals, each edition brings together numerous guest Musikkapellen from neighbouring towns and across the province, alongside popular Oberkrainer-style music groups and dance bands. It is an opportunity for the bands of the valley and the Pusteria region to meet, play together, and keep alive a musical tradition deeply rooted in the German-speaking communities of South Tyrol.

Admission is free, and the atmosphere is that of a genuine traditional mountain festival in South Tyrol.
