The brass band festival of Anterselva, featuring wind music and Val d'Anterselva specialties
The Musikfest der Musikkapelle Antholz is the annual summer festival hosted by the brass band of Anterselva di Mezzo (Antholz Mittertal), a village in the municipality of Rasun-Anterselva/Rasen-Antholz, in the Puster Valley, South Tyrol. Every year around mid-August, the local sports field (Sportzone) becomes the valley's main meeting point for two days of brass music, conviviality, and local culinary delights.
The Musikkapelle Antholz was officially founded in 1938 and today consists of about fifty musicians of all ages who preserve the traditional South Tyrolean wind music repertoire (Blasmusik). Along with the traditional Pentecost concert, the Musikfest is one of the band's main events: a celebration where the band invites other Musikkapellen from South Tyrol and neighboring Austrian Tyrol, highlighting the cultural ties that unite German-speaking communities across the border.
The program features a mix of guest band performances, Frühschoppen (morning musical aperitifs), folk dance groups (Volkstanzgruppe), and evening dances with popular music bands. The culinary side is equally important, with Puster Valley dishes, beer, and traditional desserts served under the marquees at the sports complex. It is a festival designed for families, residents, and the many tourists who visit the Val d'Anterselva in August, famous for its alpine lake and the Anterselva biathlon center.
The Musikfest is the perfect opportunity to experience the authenticity of a South Tyrolean mountain community. Nestled between the forests and peaks of the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park, Anterselva offers a cool climate and breathtaking alpine landscapes in August. Participating in the band festival means connecting with local traditions and South Tyrolean hospitality in a genuine event far from mass tourism.
The 2026 edition of the Musikfest der Musikkapelle Antholz will be held on August 14 and 15, 2026, at the Sportzone in Antholz Mittertal, in the municipality of Rasun-Anterselva, South Tyrol.
The dates are confirmed by the organizers: Friday, August 14, from 6:00 PM to 1:00 AM, and Saturday, August 15, from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM. As per tradition, the festival will feature brass band concerts, performances by guest groups from South Tyrol and Austria, folk dance moments, and Puster Valley culinary specialties.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, including the list of bands and performance times, will be announced by the Musikkapelle Antholz in the weeks leading up to the event.
The Sportzone in Antholz Mittertal can be reached by car from the Puster Valley (SS49) by taking the exit toward Val d'Anterselva. By train, you can arrive at the Valdaora-Anterselva station on the Puster Valley line and continue with the local bus service.
The festival takes place in the outdoor sports area; admission is generally free, with food and drinks available for purchase at the stands.
Val d'Anterselva is very popular in August: it is recommended to book accommodation in advance in Anterselva, Rasun, or nearby Puster Valley villages.
