Musicometa: the organ takes center stage between Christmas and Epiphany

Musicometa is the historic organ festival of Rome, active since 1995 and considered one of the longest-running organ festivals in Italy. Conceived and directed by organist Livia Mazzanti, it offers refined «musical journeys» every year that accompany the Capital from the Christmas period through to Epiphany, bringing great organ music to the city's Catholic and Evangelical churches.

A festival signed by Livia Mazzanti

The festival was born from the idea of enhancing Rome's historic organs and creating a dialogue between the king of instruments and other musical voices and languages. Under the artistic direction of Livia Mazzanti, an internationally renowned performer, Musicometa has hosted leading soloists from the global organ scene over the years, alternating between Baroque pages, Romantic repertoire, and contemporary creations. Each concert is designed as an encounter between music and the sacred space that hosts it.

The 2026 edition: a tribute to Albert Schweitzer

The 31st edition culminates on January 6, 2026, the day of Epiphany, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Rome on Via Sicilia, with the concert «Oganga Schweitzer: a white sorcerer between Bach and the Virgin Forest». A program dedicated to the figure of Albert Schweitzer — doctor, theologian, philosopher, and great Bachian organist — that intertwines the music of Johann Sebastian Bach with pieces from the African tradition. On stage: Livia Mazzanti on organ and piano, Madya Diebaté on kora, Aïcha Taghzout on vocals, and Claudio Molinari as narrator.

Musicometa stands out for its choice of fascinating venues: Rome's churches, from Catholic sites to Evangelical communities, become natural resonance chambers for the sound of the organ. In the province of Rome (RM) and the Lazio region, the festival offers the public an immersive listening experience, where sacred architecture and the spirituality of the Christmas season amplify the emotion of live music.

A free festival open to all

One of the hallmarks of Musicometa is free admission: concerts are free until capacity is reached, with the goal of bringing the widest possible audience to the Capital's organ heritage. A musical gift that, for nearly thirty years, has accompanied Romans and visitors in the suspended time between Christmas and Epiphany.
