About MusicMediale

MusicMediale is the contemporary and multimedia music festival that lights up Piacenza every June, promoted by the Composition and New Languages Departments of the Nicolini Conservatory with the Teatri Foundation. For ten days, from the Ricci Oddi Gallery to the Municipal Theater, passing through the XNL spaces, music becomes a total experience: light, matter, movement, sonic architecture. Electroacoustic concerts, sound sculptures, immersive installations, videomapping, and multimedia works for today's composers and the languages of the future.

When Music Becomes a Total Experience

In the heart of Emilia-Romagna, the MusicMediale Festival is now an anticipated event in Piacenza's June calendar. Promoted by the Composition and New Languages Departments of the Nicolini Conservatory of Piacenza along with the Teatri Foundation of Piacenza, the festival was born with a clear idea: to bring contemporary music out of classrooms and concert halls, into the city, transforming it into an experience that engages all senses. Here, music "ceases to be mere listening and becomes a total experience: light, matter, movement, sonic architecture."

A Widespread Celebration in the Municipality of Piacenza

MusicMediale is a distributed festival, inhabiting the most beautiful locations in the capital of the Province of Piacenza. It ranges from the Ricci Oddi Gallery to the spaces of the contemporary arts center XNL Piacenza, from the Conservatory Auditorium to Palazzo Rota Pisaroni, up to the solemn setting of the Municipal Theater on Via Verdi. Each venue becomes an integral part of the work: music dialogues with architecture, with artworks, with light, and with space.

Between Research, Technology, and New Languages

The program intertwines electroacoustic concerts, sound sculptures, immersive audiovisual installations, videomapping performances, and true multimedia works. The dimension of training and discussion is also present, with workshops held by international artists, masterclasses, and panels dedicated to applied musical research and the relationship between sound, technology, and visual arts. The artistic direction is entrusted to Riccardo Dapelo, with technical coordination by Gianmarco Romiti.

A Quality Cultural Network

The strength of MusicMediale also lies in the network of collaborations that supports it: in addition to the Nicolini Conservatory and the Teatri Foundation of Piacenza, the festival is realized with the Municipal Theater, the Fondazione di Piacenza e Vigevano, and XNL Piacenza. A project that grows year by year, expanding languages, audiences, and collaborations, and confirming the Conservatory's vocation to be a place of research, vision, and dialogue with the present. For lovers of contemporary music and artistic cross-pollination, it is one of the most original offerings in all of Emilia-Romagna.

MusicMediale โ€” edition 2026

The fifth edition of the MusicMediale Festival takes place in Piacenza from June 6 to 21, 2026 (with a preview on June 6), concluding at the Municipal Theater with the multimedia opera "The True Story of the Invisible Angel." Ten days of electroacoustic concerts, sound sculptures, immersive installations, videomapping, and an international workshop, where contemporary music becomes space, image, and vision.

The 2026 edition of MusicMediale explores the intersections between music, technology, and visual arts over ten days spread across Piacenza's most evocative venues. From the preview at the Ricci Oddi Gallery to the grand finale at the Municipal Theater, the program alternates piano and electronics concerts, electroacoustic works, sound sculptures and installations, videomapping performances, and moments of research and training. A journey culminating in the multimedia opera dedicated to the "Invisible Angel," a synthesis of music, stage, and digital languages.
