The early music festival in the castle of Magliano in Toscana
Every summer, the village of Magliano in Toscana, in the province of Grosseto, hosts MusicAnticaMagliano, one of the most highly regarded early music festivals in southern Tuscany. Organized by the cultural association Le Muse del Nespolo under the artistic direction of maestro Guido Morini, the festival was established in 2015 and has since built a loyal following of enthusiasts, drawing listeners from across the region to this small Maremma town.
The festival's central theme is the great repertoire of the Baroque and late Renaissance eras: from the trio sonatas of Corelli and Vivaldi to Neapolitan works, and from the composers of the Grand Ducal court to the influences connecting East and West. Each evening is built around a specific theme and entrusted to ensembles and soloists specializing in historically informed performance, playing on period instruments or faithful reproductions. It is a journey through different eras and genres, designed for both connoisseurs and those discovering this repertoire for the first time.
The main venue for the concerts is the Giardino del Torrione, an intimate and charming space within the walls of Magliano in Toscana. In case of bad weather, the performances move to the Pieve di San Martino. The setting of the medieval village, with its walls, narrow alleys, and historic buildings, helps make every concert an experience that blends music, architecture, and the landscape of the Maremma.
Alongside the main concerts, the festival also dedicates space to young performers through the MusicAnticaMagliano Young project, which features emerging talents in early music in dedicated evening performances. The event is supported by the Municipality of Magliano in Toscana, the Tuscany Region, the Ministry of Culture, and the Fondazione CR Firenze, confirming the cultural significance this summer event in the province of Grosseto has achieved in just a few years.
The 2026 edition of MusicAnticaMagliano consists of four concerts, all hosted in the Giardino del Torrione of Magliano in Toscana. The program spans different eras and geographies of early music: from the European musical capital of the 17th and 18th centuries to Neapolitan pages, from the dialogue between East and West to the repertoire of the Grand Duke's court. Directed by maestro Guido Morini for the Le Muse del Nespolo association, the festival confirms its role as a key summer destination for early music in the Maremma.
