About Musical Evenings at the Castle

Le Serate Musicali al Castello brings great chamber music to the Hall of Honour of the Castle of San Giorgio Piacentino, in the heart of the Val Nure in the province of Piacenza. A refined, free-admission event, organized by the Municipality in collaboration with the Piacenza Classica Festival directed by Monica Righi and Ivan Maliboshka: clarinet, cello, flute, and piano alternate in a repertoire ranging from Schumann and Brahms to Verdi, Casella, and Bartók, in an intimate and evocative historical setting.

Chamber Music in the Castle of San Giorgio Piacentino

The Musical Evenings at the Castle are a series of chamber music concerts held in the elegant Hall of Honour of the Castle of San Giorgio, at Via Conciliazione 3 in San Giorgio Piacentino, a small municipality in the Val Nure, province of Piacenza, in the heart of Emilia-Romagna. The initiative is promoted by the Municipality in collaboration with the Piacenza Classica Festival, the chamber music festival of Piacenza artistically directed by cellist Monica Righi and pianist Ivan Maliboshka.

A Historic Setting for Great Music

The Castle of San Giorgio offers an intimate and charming environment: its Hall of Honour, with warm acoustics and a limited capacity, creates a close dialogue between musicians and the audience, far from large concert halls. It is this intimacy that makes each event special, where even less experienced listeners can approach the great repertoire in a welcoming atmosphere.

A Quality Chamber Repertoire

The series offers a calendar of evenings featuring various ensembles: duos for clarinet and piano, cello and piano, flute and piano, as well as trios and solo programs. The program ranges from the great names of tradition — Schumann, Brahms, Schubert, Beethoven, Verdi — to less frequently performed pieces from the Italian and Central European repertoire, by composers such as Alfredo Casella, Béla Bartók, Carl Reinecke, and Robert Fuchs. Renowned performers take the stage, including soloists who collaborate with prestigious institutions such as the Teatro alla Scala in Milan.

Free Admission, Promoting Sharing

In line with the educational spirit of the Piacenza Classica Festival, the Musical Evenings at the Castle are free admission with a donation: a valuable opportunity for the Piacenza area to experience professional-quality concerts without financial barriers. The series is part of a broader project to promote the musical heritage of the Castle of San Giorgio, which also hosts other concert seasons throughout the year, such as the summer series in June.

What Makes This Event Special

  • A historic venue of great charm, the Hall of Honour of the Castle of San Giorgio
  • Curated chamber music programs, featuring both famous and rare repertoire
  • High-level performers, associated with the Piacenza Classica Festival
  • Free admission, accessible to all
  • An intimate musical experience, in the green Val Nure of Piacenza
