Concerts among the peaks of Upper Piedmont: the opening concert in Antrona Schieranco
In the heart of Valle Antrona, in the municipality of Antrona Schieranco (province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, Piedmont), one of the most beloved summer music festivals in the Alps begins: Musica in Quota. The festival was born from a simple and fascinating idea: to bring great live music to places usually reached only by hikers, among pastures, lakes, and clearings accessible only on foot. The mountain is no longer just a backdrop, but a true natural stageโa cultural landscape to be experienced with awareness.
The village of Antronapiana, in the municipality of Antrona Schieranco, hosts the opening concert that officially launches the season. The event takes place in the Via Santa Maria Multipurpose Hall, the only concert in the series easily reachable by car without the need for a hike: a perfect opportunity for those who wish to experience the festival without hitting the trails. Admission is free.
The 2026 edition marks an important milestone: twenty years of Musica in Quota. Since 2006, the Musica in Quota Association, led by president Claudio Cottini, has curated a calendar each summer that weaves together hiking and concerts, celebrating the traditions and communities of the Ossola valleys. The festival is supported by the Piedmont Region, the Lake District, and the Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola.
After the opening in Antrona Schieranco, the festival continues throughout the summer with a series of concerts hosted on scenic open-air stages across the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola area and, for the first time, the Biella region. Each concert is preceded by a hike on trails of varying difficulty, accompanied by guides from the Italian Alpine Club. The program ranges from jazz to folk, from Brazilian music to tributes to Italian pop, attracting thousands of spectators every year.
Walking through the woods and pastures of Valle Antrona, reaching an alpine pasture, and listening to a concert in the presence of the peaks: this is the experience that Musica in Quota offers to residents and visitors alike. An authentic and respectful way to experience the Piedmontese mountains, blending a passion for trekking with a love for music.
The twentieth edition of Musica in Quota opens on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 5:00 PM, in the Multipurpose Hall of Antronapiana, a hamlet of Antrona Schieranco (VB). The opening concert is entrusted to the duo formed by Alessandra Gelfini and Roberto Olzer, who present their piano project "Crossroads", a refined sonic journey at the crossroads of genres.
Unlike other events in the series, which are hosted at high altitude and reached on foot, the opening concert is held indoors and is easily accessible by car. Admission is free. The evening marks the official start of a season that celebrates twenty years of the festival created by the Musica in Quota Association.
The opening concert is held at the Multipurpose Hall in Antronapiana, Via Santa Maria 4, a hamlet of Antrona Schieranco (VB). The hall is easily accessible by car, with no hiking required. By train, the reference station is Villadossola (Domodossola-Milan line), then continue by car along the Valle Antrona.
Admission to the concerts is free. For the summer high-altitude concerts, participation may be limited to protect the environment: it is recommended to check the official website musicainquota.it.
For the summer concerts, which are reached via hiking trails (difficulty level E), appropriate mountain clothing, trekking boots, water, and sun protection are essential. The hikes are accompanied by guides at the departure and arrival points.
