The summer concert series by Filarmonica Laudamo in Messina and its province
Musica in Estate is the summer concert series organized by the Filarmonica Laudamo, a historic musical institution in Messina, in the heart of Sicily. Originally conceived as an extension of the winter concert season, the festival brings great music out of traditional concert halls and into the courtyards, historic palaces, and villas of the Municipality of Messina and its province. The artistic direction is led by Antonino Cicero, while the organization benefits from the collaboration of the Fondazione Messina per la Cultura.
The Filarmonica Laudamo, founded in 1921 and named after Antonio Laudamo, is the oldest concert society in Sicily and one of the first established in Italy. Its home, the celebrated Sala Laudamo attached to the Teatro Vittorio Emanuele, has been a cornerstone of Messina's musical life for over a century: in 2021, Poste Italiane issued a stamp to commemorate its centenary. With Musica in Estate, the association extends its activities into the summer months, blending classical repertoire, jazz influences, and the evocative sounds of Argentine tango.
The program runs from June to September, with events distributed across multiple venues. Key locations include the Monte di Pietà and Villa Pulejo in Messina, as well as stops in Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto and on the island of Salina in the Aeolian archipelago. The festival traditionally maintains a strong social focus, featuring a concert specifically designed for disadvantaged groups.
Designed for the local audience but also attracting visitors vacationing on the Tyrrhenian coast and the Aeolian Islands, Musica in Estate is now a benchmark event in Messina's cultural summer. The variety of genres and the quality of the performers make it a festival appreciated by both classical music aficionados and those experiencing live concerts for the first time.
The 2026 edition of Musica in Estate, the second of the series, features seven concerts from June 23 to September 3, 2026, between Messina and its province. The festival is promoted by the Filarmonica Laudamo (President Alba Crea, Artistic Director Antonino Cicero) in collaboration with the Fondazione Messina per la Cultura.
Tickets are available through the Tickettando circuit and at the box office before each concert.
Concerts are held in various venues throughout Messina and its province, including the Monte di Pietà and Villa Pulejo in Messina, with additional events in Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto and on the island of Salina (Aeolian Islands).
