Band parades and concerts in the heart of Vigo di Fassa
Musica e Tradizioni is one of the most cherished summer festivals in Vigo di Fassa, a village in the municipality of San Giovanni di Fassa-Sèn Jan, in the province of Trento and the heart of the Trentino-Alto Adige region. Throughout the summer, a local or neighboring valley brass band enlivens the village evenings on a weekly basis, bringing their repertoire to the streets and squares.
Every event, starting at 9:00 PM, opens with a parade along Strada Rezia, the main street of Vigo, and concludes with a concert in the square in front of the tourist office. In case of bad weather, the parade is cancelled, but the concert still takes place at the event pavilion near Hotel Vael.
The common thread of the festival is the Alpine band tradition, fueled by the volunteer spirit that defines Trentino-Alto Adige. The bands perform in their authentic traditional costumes, offering a repertoire that ranges from original band compositions to soundtracks, and from orchestral arrangements to Ladin and Tyrolean folk melodies.
The host is the Musega da Vich, the Vigo di Fassa band founded in 1820, led by Maestro Alessandro Ghetta and composed of about sixty volunteer musicians, accompanied by flag bearers and traditional canteen staff. Alongside them, guest ensembles perform, such as the Banda Sociale Erminio Deflorian of Tesero, one of the most historic bands in the Val di Fiemme.
The festival is designed as a moment of socialization across generations: each musician puts their passion at the service of the community, passing on the identity, history, and customs of the region. For those spending their holidays in Val di Fassa, Musica e Tradizioni is an authentic and free way to discover Ladin culture, enjoy summer evenings outdoors, and experience the atmosphere of mountain villages.
For the summer of 2026, the Musica e Tradizioni festival returns to Vigo di Fassa from June 20 to August 3, with weekly evenings at 9:00 PM. The program alternates various brass bands on the square stage and along Strada Rezia: on July 6, the Banda Sociale Erminio Deflorian of Tesero, founded in 1817 and directed by Maestro Fabrizio Zanon, will be the protagonist with an ensemble of about 65-70 musicians; another appointment is scheduled for July 13. As per tradition, the host is the Musega da Vich, the Vigo di Fassa band. Each evening opens with the parade and continues with the concert; in case of bad weather, the parade is cancelled and the concert is held at the pavilion near Hotel Vael. Admission is free.
Vigo di Fassa (Sèn Jan di Fassa) can be reached by car via the A22 Brenner motorway, taking the Egna/Ora or Bolzano Nord exit and continuing along the Val di Fassa. The nearest train station is Ora/Auer, which is connected to the valley by regular bus lines.
The evenings begin at 9:00 PM. Admission is free. In case of bad weather, the parade is cancelled and the concert is held at the pavilion near Hotel Vael.
