Amidst alleys and melodies: music, art, and street food at Castello Caracciolo
Every June 21st, in celebration of European Music Day, the village of Sammichele di Bari, located in the heart of the Apulian Murgia, transforms into a grand open-air stage. The Music Festival brings the historic center and the evocative Castello Caracciolo to life, filling the village alleys with notes, colors, flavors, and folk traditions during an evening that is free and open to all.
The event, promoted by the Pro Loco "Dino Bianco" in collaboration with the Apula Flava Musical Art Association and the "Dammi una zampa" association, with the support of the Municipality of Sammichele di Bari, combines community spirit with local promotion. The common thread is music in all its forms, from the young talents of local music schools to choral ensembles and folk revival groups.
The festival unfolds along a route that touches the village's iconic landmarks: Castello Caracciolo, Largo Sant'Antonio, and Piazza Caracciolo. The afternoon begins with activities dedicated to families and children, building in intensity with performances by young musicians and concluding with a folk music concert featuring the melodies, songs, and dances of the Apulian tradition.
Accompanying the music is the best of Apulian cuisine: along the route, you will find street food stalls serving panzerotti, fries, popizze, and local wine, alongside market stalls dedicated to artisanal excellence and local products. It is the perfect opportunity to discover Sammichele di Bariโa village also famous for its renowned Zampina Festivalโin a festive and convivial atmosphere.
With free admission, the Music Festival in Sammichele di Bari is designed as an inclusive, intergenerational event: a way to experience the historic center, support local associations, and celebrate the start of summer through the lens of Apulian culture and tradition.
