Italian drama takes the stage in Taviano, in the heart of Salento
The Multiplex Teatro Fasano Theatre Season is the drama festival that brings winter to life in Taviano, a town in the province of Lecce in the heart of lower Salento, Puglia. Promoted by the Municipality of Taviano in collaboration with Puglia Culture (the regional multidisciplinary live performance circuit), the season transforms the modern Multiplex Teatro Fasano into a landmark for theatre lovers across the Salento region.
From November to April, the Taviano stage hosts a journey through the genres and eras of Italian theatre: from brilliant comedy to contemporary drama, from classics reinterpreted for modern audiences to social and narrative theatre. Each season pairs the most prominent national performers with the most compelling voices in new dramaturgy, a balance that has made the festival a highly anticipated event.
The 2025/2026 season features nine shows, showcasing performers such as Giuseppe Zeno, Stefano Fresi, Massimo Venturiello, Massimo Ghini, Leo Gullotta, and the most vibrant Salento-based companies, with titles ranging from Lina Wertmüller to Eduardo De Filippo and contemporary auteur drama.
The festival takes place at the Multiplex Teatro Fasano on Via Donatori Volontari Sangue, a multi-purpose facility that combines a cinema and a theatre space, featuring comfortable, tiered seating. Its location, just a few kilometres from the Ionian coast of Salento, makes it an accessible cultural hub for a wide audience spanning Taviano and neighbouring towns such as Gallipoli, Casarano, Racale, and Ugento.
The theatre season represents one of the most significant cultural investments by the Municipality of Taviano, which has supported the festival for years as a tool for the civic and social growth of the area. Membership in the Puglia Culture circuit guarantees high-quality productions and the presence of nationally renowned artists, bringing great Italian theatre to a provincial setting and helping to spread a love for the stage among younger generations, thanks to discounted rates for students and dedicated season tickets.
The 2025/2026 season, promoted by the Municipality of Taviano with Puglia Culture, brought nine performances to the stage between November and April. The curtain rose on November 21, 2025 (a date postponed from the initial announcement of November 17) and closed on April 29, 2026, with a journey that combined brilliant comedy, social theatre, and 20th-century Italian classics.
The programme featured names on the Taviano stage such as Giuseppe Zeno, Stefano Fresi, Massimo Venturiello, Massimo Ghini, and Leo Gullotta, alongside artists and companies from the Salento region.
