The women's rights festival in Capaci
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Muliebris is the women's rights festival in Capaci, a town on the Tyrrhenian coast in the province of Palermo, Sicily. The event was founded in 2021 on the initiative of the Capaci Women's Council, with the patronage of the municipal administration and the collaboration of the Spazio Cultura Libreria Macaione. Since its first edition, the festival has chosen the central Piazza Matrice as its home, transforming it for several summer evenings into an open-air stage and a meeting place for the community.
The Muliebris program combines entertainment with reflection, lightness with depth. The evenings alternate between film screenings, theatrical performances, concerts, and dance performances, accompanied by photography exhibitions and moments of debate. The common thread is always the same: giving voice to women's stories, investigating the dynamics that lead to gender-based violence, and reaffirming the importance of protecting women's rights. The festival centers on the female perspective and involves artists, actresses, musicians, and speakers from the Palermo and Sicilian area.
The inaugural 2021 edition opened with the screening of the film Suffragette and continued with theatre by the Teatranti Instabili, a tribute concert to the Sicilian singer-songwriter Rosa Balistreri, and an evening of contemporary dance. Over the years, the festival has grown and established itself as a summer fixture for the Capaci community, enriching itself with new offerings: photography exhibitions by female artists, women-led concerts such as the recital by the Menestrella Femminista, readings, and round tables. While remaining a local event, Muliebris has managed to build a precise identity founded on the encounter between culture and civic engagement.
All evenings take place in Piazza Matrice with free admission, subject to availability. Muliebris is designed as a community festival, inviting citizens of Capaci and neighboring towns to participate in a shared journey of awareness and cultural growth.
