About Agriculture Festival

In the small Municipality of Mordano, on the border between Imolese and Bassa Romagna, the Agriculture Festival has been the event that tells the rural soul of this territory for over forty years. For ten days, straddling the end of May and the beginning of June, the sports field transforms into a large peasant village made of ancient crafts, workshops for schools, tractor rallies, Romagnola food stands, and a market. The grand finale is the famous Palio dei Borghi, with the historical costume parade and the horse race among the ten districts of the town.

A festival that tells the story of the land

The Mordano Agriculture Festival, in the metropolitan city of Bologna in Emilia-Romagna, is much more than a village festival: it is an event created to pass on to new generations the agricultural and cultural traditions linked to old crafts and ancient tools used in the fields. For over four decades, the organizing committee, led by historic president Renato Folli, has transformed Mordano's sports field into a large rural village for ten days, where peasant civilization comes back to life before the eyes of adults and children.

The protagonists: children and schools

The heart of the Festival is the youngest generation. Every year, the opening morning is dedicated to the pupils of the schools in Mordano, Bubano, and Sasso Morelli, who participate in dozens of educational workshops: from clay modeling to weaving, from spinning to preparing piadina and garganelli, up to discovering old crafts like the blacksmith, the farrier, and the shoemaker. There are also farm animals, ponies for horseback riding, and vintage games, in a path designed to bring children closer to the world of the countryside.

Tractors, market, and gastronomy

Among the most anticipated events is the rally of vintage tractors and agricultural machinery, which parade through the town streets on one of the central days. Alongside, the market, exhibitions, and food stands run by dozens of volunteers come to life, where you can taste typical Romagnola dishes: tortellini, garganelli, piadina, grilled meats, and, on some evenings, even fish specialties.

The Palio dei Borghi

The most spectacular moment arrives with the grand finale: the Palio dei Borghi. On the last Sunday of the Festival, the town comes alive with a large historical costume parade, with about one hundred and seventy participants in period costumes accompanied by flag-wavers and drummers. The parade evokes ancient atmospheres and culminates in the horse race where the ten districts of Mordano compete, each represented by its own rider. It is a tradition that blends folklore, competition, and community identity, and has always attracted a large audience.

A non-profit event

The Agriculture Festival is a non-profit event: the proceeds help support educational and sports projects in the area. Over the years, the event has also awarded the Golden Plough, a recognition given to prominent personalities. A popular, free festival deeply connected to the Municipality of Mordano and its people.
