A local festival that has become a regional staple

The Monterosi Beer Festival began as a simple village fair and has grown over the years into one of the most anticipated summer events in the Viterbo Tuscia area. Held in the Municipality of Monterosi, in the province of Viterbo, in northern Lazio, it has carved out a permanent spot on the local calendar: the final evenings of June and the first weekend of July, when the days are long and the warm nights are perfect for staying out late.

The event's headquarters is Piazzale Sant'Antonio Abate, a spacious square near the town center that is equipped with a stage, long communal tables, beer taps, and food stalls for the occasion. The formula is the tried-and-tested one of traditional Italian festivals and has never needed major changes: you arrive early, have dinner outdoors, enjoy a beer, and stay for the music.

Monterosi is a small town of a few thousand inhabitants overlooking the Lake of Monterosi, situated along the ancient Via Cassia. Its strategic position, just over forty kilometers from Rome and a short distance from the most famous villages of the Tuscia region, makes it easily accessible even for those arriving from the capital for just the evening. The surrounding area, with its volcanic lakes, forests, and medieval historic centers, offers plenty of reasons to stay for the day as well.

The Beer Festival is part of a busy Monterosi summer calendar filled with food festivals, neighborhood celebrations, and musical evenings, but it remains the event with the widest appeal. Organizers report hundreds of attendees starting from the very first weekend, with significant turnout from neighboring towns.

How it works

Admission to the festival area is free: you only pay for what you consume at the beer and food stalls. No reservations are required, although on peak nights it is best to arrive early to secure a table. The event is outdoors and takes place in any acceptable weather; in case of bad weather, organizers communicate any changes via the event's social media channels.
