The flower and plant market fair in the historic center of Montelupo Fiorentino
When March arrives, the historic center of Montelupo Fiorentino — the famous village of ceramics in the province of Florence, Tuscany — dresses up in colors and scents for Montelupo in Fiore, the major flower and plant market fair that symbolically kicks off the city's event season. For an entire day, the streets and squares are filled with nurserymen, exhibitors, workshops, and activities designed for all ages, in a festive atmosphere that draws gardening enthusiasts, families, and curious visitors from across the Empolese Valdelsa area.
The heart of the event is the market fair: numerous flower and plant exhibitors bring Piazza della Libertà, Corso Garibaldi, and Via XX Settembre to life, while Piazza dell'Unione Europea hosts a larger market featuring plants, flowers, handicrafts, honey, and gardening supplies. Strolling among the stalls, you will find artistic installations and creative floral-themed proposals, often intertwined with the great ceramic tradition that has defined Montelupo for centuries.
Montelupo in Fiore is, above all, a day to be experienced. The program includes creative workshops for adults and children, guided tours of the Ceramics Museum (MMAB) collection, scientific experiments for the little ones, animated readings, and the ever-popular educational farm with alpacas, sheep, goats, and ponies. Food and wine lovers can indulge in wine tastings hosted by local producers and stop for lunch or an aperitif at the refreshment points in the center.
In Montelupo, nothing is truly disconnected from ceramics: even during Montelupo in Fiore, artisan workshops, art spaces, and the museum open their doors to visitors, offering sales, exhibitions, and decoration workshops. It is the perfect opportunity to discover the soul of a village that has made majolica its hallmark, blending the beauty of flowers with that of painted terracotta.
Montelupo in Fiore is the best way to welcome spring in one of the most characteristic villages in the Florence area, amidst nature, art, and tradition.
The 2026 edition of Montelupo in Fiore was held on Sunday, March 15, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, livening up the historic center and Piazza dell'Unione Europea with 17 events including exhibitions, workshops, guided tours, and tastings. Numerous nurserymen colored Piazza della Libertà, Corso Garibaldi, and Via XX Settembre, while the market in Piazza dell'Unione Europea offered plants, flowers, handicrafts, and honey. Among the most popular attractions were the educational farm with alpacas and ponies, creative and scientific workshops for children, and visits to the Ceramics Museum.
Lunch and aperitif from 6:00 PM with DJ set by "Cibo, Vino e Chiacchiere" (reservations: 3342512189).
Montelupo Fiorentino is located along the Arno valley, about 25 km from Florence. By train, the Montelupo-Capraia station is on the Florence–Empoli–Pisa line, just a short walk from the historic center. By car, it can be reached via the SS67 state road or the FI-PI-LI expressway (Montelupo Fiorentino exit).
The event takes place over a single day, generally from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Admission to the event and the market is free; some guided tours and museum workshops may require a fee and prior booking.
Wear comfortable shoes for walking between the squares and streets of the center. Bring a large bag if you intend to buy plants or flowers. For guided tours and limited-capacity workshops, advance booking is recommended.
