About Montecastello in Trail

Montecastello in Trail is a non-competitive trail running and walking event held in Montecastello, a small hillside village in the province of Alessandria, in the heart of Piedmont. Following the official AMC Anello di Montecastello route (8.5 km, +300m elevation gain), the event combines sport, nature, and community in an accessible, informal setting open to everyone.

A run through the greenery of the Alessandria hills

Montecastello in Trail is an event dedicated to trail running and walking that invites athletes and enthusiasts to explore the paths and stairways of Montecastello, a small municipality of about 280 inhabitants nestled in the hills of the Province of Alessandria, Piedmont. This is not a timed race: the event is designed as an opportunity to socialize, get active, and introduce more people to sport in an accessible and relaxed atmosphere.

The route: the Anello di Montecastello

The reference route is the AMC Anello di Montecastello, a trail officially registered in the Alessandria Province trail network. It spans 8.5 kilometers with a positive elevation gain of approximately 300 meters. The route begins in the urban area, featuring characteristic stairways that wind through the village, before alternating between dirt paths and paved sections immersed in the hilly landscape. It is precisely because of its challenging climbs and picturesque views that Montecastello is a popular destination for local athletes, particularly for uphill running training.

A local project

The event was conceived and promoted by Dalila Siri, a local councilor and resident, with the support of the PASSOdopoPASSO ODV association from Alessandria, a volunteer organization active in walking, environmental projects, and charitable initiatives. The event is sponsored by the Municipality of Montecastello and organized in collaboration with the local Pro Loco. Originally launched as a FIDAL trial and later transformed into a non-competitive charity event, the run focuses on enhancing the local area through movement and outdoor sports.

Why participate

Montecastello in Trail is the perfect opportunity to discover an authentic corner of Piedmont, far from mass tourism, by running or walking through woods, vineyards, and the alleys of a village with intimate beauty. It is an event suitable for trained runners as well as those who simply want to enjoy a day of sport and nature in good company, with the meeting point set in the lush greenery of the Via Isorella woods.
