The great medieval re-enactment of Montefeltro in the village of Monte Cerignone
Every summer, the small village of Monte Cerignone, perched in the hinterland of the province of Pesaro and Urbino, transforms into a 13th-century village. Mons Cerignonis – Medieval Days is the most anticipated event in the town and one of the reference historical re-enactments for the Marche region and nearby Romagna, capable of attracting thousands of visitors through its cobbled streets and to the foot of the Rocca that overlooks the Conca valley.
Throughout the event, the historic center is populated by encampments, artisan workshops, and a large medieval market. Flag-wavers, historical groups, musicians, jesters, preachers, charlatans, stilt walkers, fire-eaters, fakirs, and jugglers animate every corner of the village with itinerant shows, games, and entertainment that engage audiences of all ages. Falconry is also featured, with demonstrations of birds of prey in flight that recall ancient courtly arts.
The heart of the festival is the historical procession: the court descends from the Rocca and crosses the village streets to Piazza Begni, where the Palio dell'Uovo comes to life. It is a tournament of traditional games in which the village districts compete for the palio by challenging each other in tests such as tug-of-war, rope skipping, and egg tossing towards a moving target. The competition between the districts, experienced with great community participation, is the most heartfelt moment of the entire event.
The experience would not be complete without its food and wine dimension. In the hostarias and taverns set up in the village, rustic traditional dishes are served – soups, grilled meats, piadine, polenta, and medieval-inspired desserts – while in the cellars, wines, craft beers, and platters of cured meats are offered. Everything contributes to recreating the convivial atmosphere of an authentic banquet of yesteryear.
Organized with the support of the Municipality of Monte Cerignone, Mons Cerignonis is now a consolidated tradition that enhances the identity of this Montefeltro village, a borderland between Marche, Romagna, and the Republic of San Marino. A perfect opportunity to discover a lesser-known corner of the Marche, experiencing a weekend suspended between history, entertainment, and gastronomy.
The XXIV edition of Mons Cerignonis will take place from Friday, July 10 to Sunday, July 12, 2026, in the medieval village of Monte Cerignone (PU). As tradition dictates, the three days will feature the historical procession with the court descending from the Rocca, the Palio dell'Uovo between the districts in Piazza Begni, falconry demonstrations, flag-wavers, jesters, fire-eaters, and musicians, as well as the medieval market, encampments, and taverns with rustic dishes and wines.
