About Mondello Cup

The Mondello Cup is a sprint triathlon that transforms the seaside village of Mondello in Palermo into a major sporting arena every spring. Covering a sprint distance—750m swim in the gulf, 20km cycle through Parco della Favorita, and a 5km run along the coast—around 500 athletes from across Sicily and beyond compete. Alongside the main race, the weekend features youth Aquathlon events, inclusive activities for disabled athletes, and the charity Wings for Life World Run.

The Mondello Cup: A Triathlon for Everyone

The Mondello Cup – Sprint Triathlon is one of the most anticipated events on the Sicilian triathlon calendar. Organized by the Now Team, the event takes place every spring in the stunning setting of the seaside village of Mondello, in the municipality of Palermo, the capital of the Sicily region. It is two days of sport that combine competition, inclusion, and local promotion, set between the sea and the historic greenery of Parco della Favorita.

A Sprint Distance Race

The main event is the sprint distance triathlon, divided into three stages: a 750-meter swim in the waters of the Gulf of Mondello, a 20-kilometer bike ride inside Parco della Favorita, and a 5-kilometer run along the seafront. The competition is ranked Silver by the FITRI (Italian Triathlon Federation) and is part of the Sicily Age Group Trophy, with drafting allowed.

A Weekend for All Ages

The Mondello Cup is more than just a race. The program includes Aquathlon Kids and Youth events, involving children in a swim-run combination, and a strong focus on inclusion: athletes with disabilities participate fully in the event, staying true to the spirit of a "triathlon for everyone." The festival is rounded out by side initiatives such as guided tours, food and wine tastings, and accommodation packages offered by local hotels between Mondello and the city center.

The Wings for Life World Run

The Mondello Cup also hosts the Wings for Life World Run, the world's largest charity run, which stops in Mondello with its signature Virtual Catcher Car format: everyone runs at their own pace, while the funds raised support spinal cord injury research. It is a moment of sport and solidarity that concludes the Sunday race schedule.

Mondello and Parco della Favorita: Unique Scenery

The setting is one of the most evocative in Sicily: the Gulf of Mondello, with its white sand and crystal-clear waters, and Parco della Favorita, at the foot of Monte Pellegrino, Palermo's historic green lung. This context makes the Mondello Cup not just a sporting competition, but also an opportunity to discover the beauty of the Sicilian capital.

Mondello Cup — edition 2026

The 10th edition of the Mondello Cup took place on May 9-10, 2026, in Palermo, between the Gulf of Mondello and Parco della Favorita. Saturday featured youth Aquathlon Kids and Youth events, while Sunday hosted the main sprint triathlon with around 500 athletes, followed by the Wings for Life World Run.

Mondello Cup 2026 – 10th Edition

The 2026 edition, the tenth of the event, was held on Saturday, May 9, and Sunday, May 10. Saturday, May 9 saw the start of the Aquathlon Kids and Youth events in the early afternoon (transition area opening at 2:15 PM, youth category starts to follow, awards ceremony in the evening).
