Summer gastronomic evenings hosted by the Pro Loco in the Upper Val Curone
The Momperone Gastronomic Evenings are the most anticipated summer event in this small municipality of the Upper Val Curone, in the province of Alessandria, in the heart of the Tortona region of Piedmont. Nestled on a gentle slope to the right of the Curone stream, Momperone has just over two hundred inhabitants, but every summer its square fills with long tables, enticing aromas, and music, thanks to the efforts of the local Pro Loco.
The Pro Loco Momperone Tourist Association, founded in January 1991, has been organizing a series of open-air dinners dedicated to local traditional cuisine for many years. The evenings, spread throughout July and August, alternate between traditional Piedmontese menus and gastronomic offerings designed to highlight local products, from cured meats to the wines of the Tortona hills (Dolcetto, Barbera, Cortese, and the prized Timorasso).
The signature dish of these evenings is malfatti, small dumplings typical of local peasant cuisine. During the famous Malfatti Evening, the menu features mixed cold cuts, malfatti, pork chops, sausages, roast beef, and dessert, all paired with local wines. Dinners generally start at 8:00 PM and take place in the town square.
A visit to Momperone is also an opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the province of Alessandria: the village was first mentioned in 1220 and is dominated by the Church of Saints Peter and Victor. All around, hills covered in vineyards and orchards stretch out, with farmhouses and producers offering the chance to taste excellent local products. The Gastronomic Evenings are the best way to experience the hospitality of this small municipality in the Upper Val Curone.
The 2026 season of the Momperone Gastronomic Evenings has been confirmed: in May 2026, the Municipality published the announcement "Pro Loco Momperone Events 2026 - Gastronomic Evenings 2026".
The calendar begins on June 29, 2026, at 8:00 PM with the Malfatti Evening, featuring the classic Pro Loco menu: mixed cold cuts, malfatti, pork chops, sausages, roast beef, and dessert. The evening will be accompanied by live musical entertainment and dancing in the square. Reservations are mandatory.
Further dates for the evenings in July and August are currently being finalized and will be communicated by the Pro Loco on their channels. For information and reservations: tel. +39 0131 784675 / +39 338 4720593.
Momperone can be reached by car from the Tortona motorway exit (A7), then continuing along the Val Curone towards the Tortona hills. The nearest train station is in Tortona, on the Genoa-Milan line.
The evenings require mandatory reservations. For information: Pro Loco Momperone, tel. +39 0131 784675 or +39 338 4720593, Facebook page "Pro Loco Momperone".
The dinners take place outdoors in the town square: it is recommended to bring a light jacket for the evening. Seating is limited, so it is best to book in advance.
