Street theatre animates the jewel village on Lake Como
Amidst the villas and alleys descending towards the water, the Municipality of Moltrasio, in the Province of Como, hosts the Moltrasio Buskers Festival every summer, a street theatre and art event that brings performances to the village squares. Founded in 2020, the festival has transformed one of the most charming villages on Lake Como into an open-air theatre.
The event features a curated selection of street theatre performances: clowning, puppetry, contemporary circus, and acrobatics. A few dates, but carefully chosen from the best Italian and international companies, capable of amazing audiences of all ages. The shows are held in symbolic locations of the village such as Piazza San Rocco and Piazza Gibuti, in the hamlet of Tosnacco.
The festival is organized by the Municipality of Moltrasio with the artistic direction of Veronica Del Vecchio (Auriga Teatro), assisted by Alessandro Taroni. The care in selecting the companies and the attention to artistic quality make the Moltrasio Buskers Festival a appreciated event in the Larian street arts scene, capable of combining popular entertainment with quality performances.
All shows are free, designed to fill Moltrasio's summer evenings with magic, laughter, and wonder. A formula that enhances the village and its connection to the lake, offering residents and tourists an opportunity to gather in the village squares.
For 2026, the Municipality of Moltrasio and Auriga Teatro confirm the summer event with the Moltrasio Buskers Festival. The street theatre event will bring selected shows of clowning, contemporary circus, puppetry, and acrobatics to the squares of the Larian village, all with free admission.
The lineup with guest companies, dates, and locations of individual shows will be published on the festival's channels closer to the event.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be announced by the Municipality of Moltrasio and Auriga Teatro in the weeks preceding the event. The usual format includes a few evening shows (typically three or four events in July) in the village squares—including Piazza San Rocco and Piazza Gibuti in Tosnacco—featuring street theatre companies, clowning, puppetry, and contemporary circus.
For reference, the 2025 edition (the sixth) featured three free shows on July 6, 11, and 18, with companies such as La Fabiola, Eccentrici Dadarò, and the Chilean acrobat Mistral.
