MetaDanze and UDA Open Days, the urban heart of dance in Rome

MetaDanze and UDA Open Days is the festival bringing four days entirely dedicated to contemporary urban dance and cross-disciplinary styles to Rome's Spazio Rossellini in the Marconi-Portuense district. Workshops, labs, choreographic calls, battles, and a final showcase create a journey that blends training, artistic research, and participation for new generations in the heart of the capital and the Lazio region.

A project born from Dancing Histor(y)ies

The festival stems from the experience of the international Dancing Histor(y)ies project and is promoted by CRDL – Centro Regionale della Danza del Lazio, ATCL – Associazione Teatrale fra i Comuni del Lazio, and ASI – Associazioni Sportive e Sociali Italiane. The goal is to strengthen the contemporary and cross-disciplinary dance ecosystem in Rome and Lazio, building a regional network that connects venues, artists, individuals, and institutions through the language of the body. MetaDanze acts as a platform that fosters dialogue between schools, companies, and young dancers, with Spazio Rossellini serving as a common home.

The program: workshops, battles, and showcases

The schedule alternates lessons with UDA academy teachers and international guests, improvisation moments, and authentic street dance challenges. The days explore all styles of urban culture:

• Lab & Call: workshops in contemporary dance, physical dance, floorwork, and choreographic composition, featuring the Call For Choreographers dedicated to new creations;
• The Street Vibes: a full day of classes in Hip Hop, Waacking, Popping, Locking, Breaking, Dancehall, House, and New Style;
• International Workshop & Battle: masterclasses with international presenters and 1vs1 Mixed Style battles in Beginners and Open categories, where dancers compete by improvising to music chosen by DJs;
• The Final Showcase: the concluding performance that brings the protagonists of the four days onto the stage.

The Call For Choreographers offers a prize with a creative residency, while the battles reward winners in the Beginner and Open categories: a concrete way to support emerging artists in the Roman urban scene.

Spazio Rossellini, the multidisciplinary cultural hub of the Lazio Region on Via della Vasca Navale, is the ideal venue for a festival that makes sharing its hallmark. Just a short walk from the Roma Trastevere station and the Marconi district, the center welcomes professional dancers, enthusiasts, students, and curious onlookers, offering everyone the chance to get closer to urban dance.
