Music celebrating the Messapian roots of Muro Leccese
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Messapia Summer Festival is one of the most anticipated musical highlights of the Salento summer in Muro Leccese, a town in the province of Lecce that served as one of the most significant Messapian centers in the region during the pre-Roman era. It is no coincidence that the festival bears this name: since its inception in 2017, the goal has been to use music to tell the story of the town's historical and cultural identity as a cornerstone of Grecìa Salentina.
The event is conceived, organized, and promoted by the Dilinò association in collaboration with the Muro Leccese municipal administration, and has found its natural home in Piazza del Popolo, within the town's historic center.
The festival program weaves together diverse genres: from pizzica and traditional Salento folk music to world music, Mediterranean pop, rock, reggae, and the DJ sets that close out the evenings. Over the years, the Muro Leccese stage has hosted prominent artists such as Nomadi, Modena City Ramblers, Africa Unite, Eugenio Bennato, Crifiu, and Après la Classe, alongside traditional Salento ensembles.
The artistic direction of Dilinò aims each year to blend major national and international acts with the promotion of local sounds, giving space to tambourines, pizzica, and electronic music.
During the festival evenings, the Mercato dei Messapi is set up throughout the streets of the old town: a cultural, artisanal, and gastronomic itinerary with exhibition stands that guide the public from the narrow alleys to the main square. It is the perfect opportunity to discover the crafts and typical flavors of Salento before and during the concerts, in a festive atmosphere that involves the entire town.
Each edition combines great music, gastronomy, and a suggestive historical setting, with food and beverage stands open in the evening within the concert area. The Messapia Summer Festival has thus become one of the signature events of the summer in Muro Leccese and the province of Lecce, drawing audiences from across the entire Salento region.
The Messapia Summer Festival returns in 2026 to Muro Leccese, in the heart of Salento, with its usual formula featuring concerts in Piazza del Popolo and the Mercato dei Messapi through the streets of the old town. At the moment, the official dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been communicated by the Dilinò association, which announces the line-up and calendar each year in the weeks preceding the event. We recommend following the festival's official channels to learn about the program, artists, and entry details as soon as they become available.
