Christmas in the heart of Venice
In the weeks leading up to Christmas, Venice's historic lagoon centre also dresses up for the holidays. Two of the city's most evocative squares, Campo Santo Stefano (San Marco district) and Campo San Polo, host the Christmas markets, with characteristic wooden chalets transforming the urban spaces into real Christmas villages.
Campo Santo Stefano and Campo San Polo
At Campo Santo Stefano, around thirty chalets offer local crafts, Murano glass, lace, masks, decorations, and typical sweets, in what many consider the most beautiful market in the city. Campo San Polo, one of Venice's largest squares, combines the market with a popular ice-skating rink for children and teenagers, featuring shows and entertainment. Entry to the public markets is free.
Lights, trees, and traditions
Venetian Christmas goes beyond the markets: illuminations light up Strada Nuova, Piazza San Marco, and the districts, Christmas trees are lit in the city's symbolic locations, and there is the evocative water parade of Santa Claus along the Grand Canal. An opportunity to discover a different Venice, more intimate and magical, far from the summer crowds.

The Venice Christmas Markets 2026 liven up the historic centre during the Advent period. At Campo Santo Stefano, the wooden chalet village offers crafts, Murano glass, and typical sweets; Campo San Polo combines the market with an ice-skating rink. The illuminations will be switched on from November 21st on Strada Nuova, Piazza San Marco, and in the districts, while the Grand Canal will host the water parade of Santa Claus.

- Campo Santo Stefano — village with about 30 wooden chalets: local crafts, Murano glass, lace, masks, decorations, and typical sweets (free entry)
- Campo San Polo — market with Venetian products and ice-skating rink, shows, and entertainment
- From November 21st — lighting of the illuminations on Strada Nuova, Piazza San Marco, San Polo, Santa Croce, Cannaregio, Dorsoduro, San Marco, and Castello
- Lighting of the Christmas trees in the city's symbolic locations
- December Sundays — water parade of Santa Claus along the Grand Canal to Rialto

How to get there
By train to Venezia Santa Lucia, then on foot or by ACTV water bus. Campo Santo Stefano is near the Accademia and Sant'Angelo; Campo San Polo can be reached from the San Silvestro or San Tomà stops.
Good to know
Entry to the markets is free. The Campo San Polo ice-skating rink has a fee (low cost). The illuminations are switched on at the end of November. For dates of tree lighting, parades, and events, it is advisable to consult the Venice Municipality's channels.
