Memory Half Marathon

A race that serves as an act of remembrance

The Memory Half Marathon is much more than just a running race: it is a civic commitment event that draws hundreds of athletes from across Italy and abroad to Palermo every year. Organized by the ASD Polizia di Stato Palermo, the event runs under the slogan "Their ideas run on our legs," dedicated to judges Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino, the fallen escort officers, and all victims of the mafia and terrorism: servants of the State, journalists, politicians, religious figures, and ordinary citizens.

The route, from Isola delle Femmine to Via D'Amelio

The main event, the half marathon at the official distance of 21.097 km, starts from the evocative Garden of Memory in Isola delle Femmine (in the province of Palermo) and winds along the coast and through the Parco della Favorita, concluding in the historic Via Mariano D'Amelio, the site of the bombing that claimed the lives of Paolo Borsellino and his escort. The course traverses symbolic locations of the Palermo area, giving the race a profound evocative value.

Three distances for everyone

• Half Marathon (21.097 km): the competitive race included in the FIDAL calendar, starting from the Garden of Memory.
• Memory Run – Vito Schifani Memorial (10 km): a road race starting and finishing on Via D'Amelio.
• Memory Walk (4 km): a recreational walk open to families, young people, and individuals with disabilities, starting from the Palazzina Cinese in the Parco della Favorita.

Sport and participation in the heart of Palermo

The event involves the Municipality of Palermo and numerous local organizations, with the temporary closure of city streets and squares to allow the races to take place. Beyond the competitive aspect, the day is designed as a moment of sharing and testimony, where sport becomes a vehicle for legality and collective memory. For the city of Palermo, the capital of Sicily, the event has become a permanent fixture of the spring running season.
