Udine's international half marathon: one of Italy's fastest
Every September, Udine dresses up for the Maratonina Internazionale Città di Udine, one of the fastest and most renowned half marathons on the Italian scene. Over the classic distance of 21.097 km, with a FIDAL-certified course, the race has seen top-level performances over time — here Zersenay Tadese set an exceptional 58'59" — and is an eagerly awaited event for elite athletes and amateur runners from all over Italy and abroad.
The Maratonina is much more than a competitive race: it's an entire sports weekend that involves the city. Alongside the half marathon, the program offers side events designed for everyone, from non-competitive races to events for children and families, up to the evocative Salita del Castello (Castle Climb) time trial, which kicks off the weekend by running towards Udine's symbolic hill.
Since 2026, the event will also host the first Italian Half Marathon Championship for Healthcare Professionals, promoted by FIASO (Italian Federation of Healthcare Companies and Hospitals): doctors, nurses, and hospital staff run to promote prevention and healthy lifestyles. An initiative that adds a strong and current social value to the competition.
Organized by A.S.D. Maratonina Udinese, founded in 2002, the race winds through Udine and its territory, offering participants a smooth and scenic course. Amidst the warmth of the crowd, the monuments of the city center, and the backdrop of the Friulian plain, the Maratonina has become a tradition that combines sport, community, and regional promotion.
The 26th edition of the Maratonina di Udine is scheduled for Sunday, September 20, 2026. For 2026, a renewed course, previously tested, will be adopted over the official FIDAL-certified distance of 21.097 km. New this year is the first Italian Half Marathon Championship for Healthcare Professionals promoted by FIASO. Registrations are open online.
Details on the course, start times, and non-competitive races will be published on the official website in the weeks preceding the event.
Registration for the half marathon is done online on the official portal (ENDU circuit). Information and regulations at maratoninadiudine.it.
