The food and wine walking tour through the hills of Montalbano in Vinci
Mangiaggiro has become a staple of the spring season in Vinci, in the Metropolitan City of Florence, Tuscany. It is a staged tasting walk: a circular route of approximately 10 km, easy and suitable for everyone, winding through the vineyards and olive groves of the Montalbano hills, the land that gave birth to Leonardo da Vinci.
The concept is simple and effective: instead of the usual sit-down lunch, you eat while you walk. At each stop, participants find a different tasting, a glass to fill, and often a show or musical performance waiting for them. The pace is leisurely, designed to allow you to enjoy the landscape, the local farms, and the company.
The event is promoted by the Montalbano Oil and Wine Route and was created to showcase the food and wine excellence of this corner of Tuscany. Along the way, you will encounter wineries, farms, apiaries, and agriturismos that open their doors to participants, offering tastings of local wines and craft beers and samples of local specialties, from extra virgin olive oil products to snacks among the olive trees.
Each participant receives a kit designed for the walk: a glass with a holder, a backpack with a water bottle, and a brochure with a map of the route. The glass becomes your travel companion for the day, to be filled stop after stop.
More than just a festival, Mangiaggiro is an experience that combines hiking, exploration of the territory, and conviviality. The route touches country churches, historic estates, and panoramic viewpoints on the Montalbano hills, offering an authentic look at rural Tuscany far from the most crowded tourist routes. In recent years, the event has often taken place in conjunction with other initiatives in the Municipality of Vinci, such as the Farmers' Festival and the EcoVinci Festival, making it a weekend dedicated to nature, the environment, and local flavors.
The fifth edition of Mangiaggiro was held on Sunday, May 24, 2026, starting at 11:00 AM from Piazza della Libertà in Vinci. The walk, approximately 10 km long and suitable for everyone, crossed the vineyards and olive groves of the Montalbano hills during a weekend dedicated to nature, in conjunction with the EcoVinci Festival.
The 2026 edition concluded with a visit to the Palazzina Uzielli, in the center of Vinci.
