The widespread Carnival of the Maremma across Manciano, Marsiliana, and Saturnia
The Manciano Carnival is one of the most cherished events in the winter calendar of this village in the province of Grosseto, in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma. It is not a single large parade, but a true widespread carnival: a calendar of events that, over several days in February, brings the squares of the municipal seat and the hamlets of Marsiliana and Saturnia to life. The event is organized by the Manciano Pro Loco, in collaboration with other local Pro Loco associations, local groups, and parishes, with the patronage of the Municipality of Manciano.
The common thread of the festival is the involvement of the little ones. Creative workshops, shows, games, and entertainment transform the squares into spaces of play and imagination. Among the most characteristic offerings are theatrical workshops using recycled materials, face painting, giant soap bubble shows, baby dance, and, of course, the costume parades judged by the King and Queen of the Carnival.
The highlight and traditional appointment of the Manciano Carnival is the Veglione del Tritello, the grand evening party that closes the celebrations at the Sports Hall. Managed by the Manciano Pro Loco, it is the most anticipated moment for adults: an evening of music, dancing, and joy that has represented the beating heart of the Manciano carnival for years.
Hosting the carnival in Manciano means experiencing the festival in one of the most evocative villages of the Maremma, perched among the hills and famous for its historic center, the fortress, and the views that stretch to the sea. A few kilometers away are the renowned Saturnia thermal baths, the Cascate del Mulino, and the Etruscan archaeological areas, which make this territory a beloved destination in every season. The Carnival thus becomes an opportunity to discover authentic Maremma hospitality, amidst popular traditions, local flavors, and a community that loves to celebrate together.
The Manciano Carnival 2026 offered a widespread calendar of events distributed over several days and hamlets, organized by the Manciano Pro Loco with local associations and the patronage of the Municipality.
The events animated Manciano, Marsiliana, and Saturnia with creative workshops, shows, games, and parades, mostly free of charge, culminating in the final evening of the Veglione del Tritello at the Sports Hall.
Manciano is located in the Maremma area of Grosseto, in Tuscany. By car, it can be reached from the SS1 Aurelia road, taking the Albinia exit and continuing on the SP74; the nearest train station is in Albinia or Orbetello, from where you can continue by bus or car. The hamlets of Marsiliana and Saturnia are connected to the main town by provincial roads.
All events of the Manciano Carnival are generally free to enter, with the exception of the evening Veglione del Tritello. For the updated program and times, it is recommended to consult the website of the Municipality of Manciano and the channels of the Manciano Pro Loco.
Outdoor events may be moved indoors (cinemas, parish halls) in case of bad weather: always check the organizers' announcements before setting off.
