About Magico Natale a Terlizzi

For about a month, from December through Epiphany, Terlizzi transforms into a grand, city-wide stage with "Magico Natale a Terlizzi – Tradition Ignites Wonder." Illuminations, Santa's villages, artisan markets, pettola and panzerotto festivals, brass and jazz concerts, exhibitions, nativity scenes, and family events bring Piazza Cavour and the historic center to life in a collective program uniting the municipality, parishes, associations, and schools of this city in the province of Bari.

A month of lights and wonder in the heart of Terlizzi

Magico Natale a Terlizzi – Tradition Ignites Wonder is the widespread festive program through which the Municipality of Terlizzi, in the Metropolitan City of Bari, Puglia, accompanies the community throughout the holiday season. From the lighting of the illuminations until Epiphany, the historic center—and Piazza Cavour in particular, dominated by the famous Clock Tower—becomes the stage for a program rich in art, music, gastronomy, and collective participation.

Tradition and community

The project is the result of a collaborative effort bringing together the municipal administration, parishes, associations, the Pro Loco, and local schools. The underlying idea is to transform the city into a large "widespread stage," where every square, cloister, and alley hosts a piece of the celebration: artistic nativity scenes, exhibitions, workshops, performances, and popular food festivals. It is a Christmas designed to involve families, children, young people, and the elderly of Terlizzi together.

Symbolic moments

  • Descent of Saint Nicholas from the Clock Tower in Piazza Cavour, a highly anticipated event that opens the celebrations.
  • Feast of Saint Lucy, with the lighting of the traditional bonfire and the pettola and panzerotto festival.
  • Santa's Village in Piazza Cavour, with games, mascots, and music for the little ones.
  • Christmas Markets and wooden stalls featuring handicrafts, ceramics, local products, and festive sweets.
  • Artistic Nativity Scenes set up in the historic center and open to visitors until Epiphany.

Music, art, and entertainment

The program gives ample space to music: brass band concerts, sacred music events in the "San Michele Arcangelo" Co-Cathedral, and jazz evenings that in recent years have brought prominent names from the Italian scene to Terlizzi. There is no shortage of theatrical performances in dialect, family cinema, reading workshops, and art and ceramic exhibitions hosted in the evocative Cloister of the Clarisse.

Flavors of the Apulian Christmas

Gastronomy takes center stage with town festivals dedicated to typical local products: pettole, panzerotti, calzoncelli, and traditional sweets, accompanied by mulled wine and roasted chestnuts during the market days. It is the perfect opportunity to rediscover the authentic flavors of Christmas in Puglia in the heart of the city.

A Christmas for the whole city

With its illuminations remaining lit from the start of the celebrations until January 6th, "Magico Natale a Terlizzi" has become an identity-defining event for the people of Terlizzi and a reason to visit for those coming from neighboring towns in the province of Bari and the BAT area. The calendar, curated annually by the Municipality, is subject to changes and additions until the official opening of the event.
