In Sergnano, a municipality in the Province of Cremona in the heart of the Cremasco region, there's a tradition that has been enlivening spring for almost forty years: the Maggio Sergnanese. It's a major team competition that, for over a month, pits the town's groups against each other in dozens of different disciplines, including real sports and traditional popular games.

The town's teams

The beauty of the Maggio Sergnanese is that the teams are born from the local social fabric: bars, pubs, pizzerias, and associations in the town form their own teams and compete for the final victory. It's a friendly but keenly contested challenge that involves young and old alike and uses good-natured local pride as its driving force.

Many disciplines, one single festival

The competition calendar is incredibly varied:

• Sports: football and 5-a-side football, bowls, table tennis, tug-of-war;
• Card games: Scala 40, scopa d'asse, briscola;
• Games and skills: chess, darts, beer pong, fishing, relay races;
• Spectacular novelties: mechanical bull, Formula 1 simulator, obstacle course.

A tradition that unites

More than a competition, the Maggio Sergnanese is a collective ritual that marks the spring in Sergnano. The competition evenings become opportunities for meeting and conviviality, and the final ranking is just a pretext for being together. Organized by a committee of volunteers with the patronage of the Municipality, the event is a faithful reflection of the identity of this town in the Cremasco region.
