A month of events and tradition in the heart of the Martesana
Maggio Masatese is the main event in Masate, a municipality in the Martesana area of the Province of Milan. It is not a single event, but a true cycle of initiatives spread over more than a month, from the beginning of May to the first days of June, with the peak moment on the Sunday of the town's festival. It is organized by the Union of Municipalities of Basiano and Masate in collaboration with the Pro Loco.
During the main day, the town transforms: in Via Roma and the market area, a market of artisans, hobbyists, and associations comes to life; in Via Venezia, street food accompanies the day; in Piazza della Repubblica, vintage car exhibitions and aperitifs with live music are held. There are also traditional games, activities for children with mini-quads and bicycles, sports demonstrations in the municipal gardens, and photographic exhibitions set up in the town's spaces.
The 2026 edition is dedicated to the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis, a common thread that intertwines the civil dimension of the festival with the religious and cultural one. Among the proposals are a theatrical performance dedicated to Saint Francis and the inauguration of the historical school archive.
Maggio Masatese is above all an occasion for gathering for the inhabitants of Masate and neighboring municipalities. Through music, gastronomy, exhibitions, and activities for all ages, the event renews every year the bond between the town and its traditions, enhancing the work of local associations.
The 2026 edition of Maggio Masatese, organized by the Union of Municipalities of Basiano and Masate with the Pro Loco, runs from May 2 to June 6, with the town festival on Sunday, May 3. This year's theme is the 800th anniversary of Saint Francis's death, which also inspires the theatrical performance dedicated to the saint. The main day features markets, street food, vintage car exhibitions, live music, and family activities spread throughout the center of Masate (MI).
