The Madonna della Neve Festival is the most cherished event in Rocca Cilento, an ancient medieval village belonging to the municipality of Lustra, in the province of Salerno, located in the heart of Campania and the Cilento region. According to local tradition, the spring festival began as a votive memorial. During a dry spring, drought threatened the crops and the population feared famine; the people of Rocca turned to the Virgin and, as the story goes, her intercession brought the rain, saving the village from disaster. The parish church and the village

The focus of the festival is the parish church of Santa Maria della Neve, located in the southern part of the village and seat of the parish, which belongs to the Diocese of Vallo della Lucania. Just above it stands the Rocca Cilento Castle, an ancient baronial manor restored in the 1960s, which overlooks the Alento valley from the top of the village.
