About Lunaria

Lunaria is a street arts festival that transforms the medieval village of Calenzano Alto, near Florence, into an open-air stage every summer. For two nights, the castle streets come alive with performers, musicians, actors, and troupes from Italy and abroad, set against a backdrop of stunning lighting installations. Each edition features a unique theme; the 2026 edition, "Celestial Mirages," explores the wonders of stars and planets.

Lunaria: Street Arts Light Up Calenzano Alto

As dusk falls, the medieval village of Calenzano Alto, in the heart of the Florentine plain, glows with a special kind of magic. This is Lunaria, the street arts festival that has been bringing the castle’s streets, squares, and gardens to life for years with roaming performances, music, theater, and light installations. Promoted by the Municipality of Calenzano and organized by the Calenzano Tourist Association, the festival is one of the most anticipated cultural events of the summer in the province of Florence, Tuscany.

The formula is simple yet enchanting: visitors follow a path marked by colorful lights that winds through the medieval walls, encountering artists of all kinds along the way. Acrobats, jugglers, stilt walkers, fire-eaters, aerial dancers, giant soap bubbles, marching bands, and street theater companies perform late into the night, creating an atmosphere suspended between reality and dreams.

A New Theme Every Year

The hallmark of Lunaria is its annual theme: each edition is conceived as a cohesive story that links performances, set designs, and characters. Since 2022, artistic direction has been entrusted to the association Le Petit Voyage, experts in street performance, who oversee the event's overall direction and narrative flow.

Following the 2025 edition dedicated to Dante's Divine Comedy, 2026 brings "Celestial Mirages," an immersion into the fascination of stars, planets, and distant worlds. Over a hundred artists, including "sky weavers" and "star merchants," bring to life a poetic universe of planet guardians, wandering moons, cartographers, and star-catchers.

The Village as a Stage

The true value of Lunaria lies in its natural stage: the castle and medieval village of Calenzano Alto, with their alleys, walls, and gardens, become an integral part of the show. During the festival, visitors can also explore cultural sites such as the Museum of Historical Figurines, which extends its opening hours for the event.

Lunaria is designed for all ages, making it the perfect evening for families or friends to discover street art in one of the most charming villages in the province of Florence.

Lunaria — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of Lunaria, titled "Celestial Mirages," is dedicated to the fascination of stars and planets.
