A start-of-year tradition in the heart of Parioli

In early September, as Rome slowly fills up again after the summer, the Luiss Guido Carli campuses in the Parioli district become the meeting point for hundreds of new students. Freshers' Week is the orientation period with which the university kicks off the academic year: it is not just a simple orientation day, but a comprehensive program spread over several days between Viale Romania 32 and Viale Pola 12, the university's two Roman hubs.

What happens during the week

The core idea is to support those arriving from outside Rome—and there are many, from all over Italy and abroad—through the most delicate transition: entering university. For this reason, the entire academic community is involved: professors, staff, tutors, and senior students guide new arrivals through meetings, degree program presentations, campus tours, and group activities. The days are organized by study level, with distinct paths for undergraduate and master's degrees.

The welcome ceremony

The most solemn moment comes at the end of the program: the welcome ceremony, which brings together all new students alongside university leadership and guests from the institutional and economic spheres. Immediately afterward, each degree program meets for its own presentation, officially marking the start of the first semester. In recent editions, the ceremony has been held on the Monday following the orientation activities, just before the start of lectures.

An event that captures the university life of Rome

Freshers' Week is not a festival in the traditional sense, but it has become a recognizable fixture on the city calendar of Rome, in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, in the Lazio region. It showcases a side of the capital that is less touristy and more everyday: the residential neighborhoods north of the center, where university campuses coexist with historic villas and tree-lined avenues. For many out-of-town students, it is their first real contact with the city, which is why the university complements academic activities with moments designed to build bonds and bridge the gap during those first few days.

Who can participate

Freshers' Week is reserved for students enrolled in Luiss courses for the upcoming academic year. Participation is optional and does not grant academic credits, but it is highly recommended: those who skip it often find themselves scrambling for practical information that is provided all at once during these sessions. To access the campuses, students must have activated their university credentials and downloaded the official app, which generates the entry QR code.
