The Inclusion Olympics in San Donato di Lecce
Lo Sport di Tutti - The Inclusion Olympics is considered Italy's most important event dedicated to inclusive and Paralympic sports. The festival takes place in San Donato di Lecce, a town in the Province of Lecce, Puglia, which transforms for an entire weekend into the national capital of sport for all. The idea driving the event is simple yet powerful: sport can become a common ground where athletes with and without disabilities compete side-by-side, in the same disciplines and at the same facilities.
The Inclusion Olympics attract thousands of athletes from all over Italy, along with families, associations, volunteers, and spectators. At the heart of the event are approximately 3,000 athletes with and without disabilities competing together, with total attendance expected to exceed 40,000. Over 130 organizations, including sports clubs and third-sector associations, participate in the organization, reflecting a project that involves the entire community.
The sports program is extensive and multidisciplinary, featuring numerous disciplines practiced in an inclusive format:
Each edition hosts prominent athletes and figures from the Paralympic world, including individuals like Nadia Lauricella ("Iron Nadia"), paracyclist Carlo Calcagni, and Paralympic dance champion Luisella Frumento. Their stories serve as a concrete message: sport breaks down barriers and opens new horizons for integration, starting with the youngest generations.
