About Living Passion of Bovecchio

During Holy Week, the medieval village of Bovecchio, a hamlet of Riccò del Golfo, becomes the stage for an intense Living Passion. Thirty-five costumed figures reenact the Via Crucis and the Last Supper among the narrow alleys and stone houses, in a sacred representation that has moved residents and visitors of the Spezia hinterland for over ten years.

The Passion in the stone village

In Bovecchio, a hamlet of the municipality of Riccò del Golfo di Spezia in the province of La Spezia, the Living Passion is one of the most evocative sacred representations in the hinterland. The narrow streets and stone houses of the medieval village serve as a natural backdrop for the reenactment of the final moments of Christ's life.

Thirty-five figures on stage

The representation involves 35 figures in period costume, from the local parish communities. The route retraces the scenes of the Via Crucis, with the Crucifixion staged in the upper part of the village, and includes the scene of the Last Supper. Costumes, armor, and sets are meticulously crafted, accompanied by meditative texts that guide the audience through the narrative of the Passion.

A community tradition

The event is promoted by the Diocesan Prioress of Confraternities and organized by the Confraternity of San Michele di Valdipino together with the Bovecchio Festival Group, with the support of the Pro Loco I Borghi di Riccò and municipal patronage. A reenactment that testifies to the strong bond between faith, tradition, and identity in the villages of the Val di Vara.
