Literature festival for children and young adults in Cles
Lettori in Fiore is the first literature festival for children and young adults entirely conceived and driven by a group of passionate Italian teachers who implement an innovative and inclusive methodological approach in their classrooms: the Writing and Reading Workshop, a US-inspired reading and writing lab. The event takes place every spring in Cles, the main town of the Val di Non, and in various villages across the Valli del Noce, in the heart of the Trentino-Alto Adige region.
The festival is born from a simple and generous conviction: "there is no such thing as a child who hates reading; there are only children and teenagers who haven't found the right book yet." For this reason, the program is built around the students, who become book mediators themselves: classes present the guest authors after having read and discussed their works in the classroom throughout the school year.
The main venues are located in Cles, including the Municipal Library, the Palazzo Assessorile, and other city spaces, but numerous events also reach schools and communities in the neighboring villages of the Val di Non and Val di Sole. Each edition involves approximately 130 classes and over 2,500 students aged 3 to 18, coming from about fifteen local schools, ranging from kindergartens to high schools and vocational training centers.
The program alternates between presentations by national and international authors and illustrators, writing workshops, storytelling sessions, theatrical performances, podcasts, and exhibitions hosted in city venues. Special attention is paid to poetry, comics, picture books, and storytelling, fostering a constant dialogue between writing and reading.
Promoted by the Municipality of Cles with the support of the Autonomous Region of Trentino-Alto Adige and the Autonomous Province of Trento, Lettori in Fiore offers free admission to all events. Booking is recommended for meetings and mandatory for workshops, which have limited capacity. The festival also offers free training days for teachers, educators, and parents.
The 2026 edition of Lettori in Fiore brought Cles and the villages of the Valli del Noce to life in March, with the main week from March 25 to 29, 2026, and several preview events in the days prior. Between the Municipal Library and the Palazzo Assessorile, a series of author meetings, writing workshops, storytelling sessions, and performances took place, with classes taking the lead in presenting the books.
Announced guests included authors and illustrators such as Antonio Ferrara, Marianna Cappelli, Elisa Puricelli Guerra, Giuditta Campello, Guido Sgardoli, Roberto Piumini, Silvia Vecchini, Sualzo, and Ferruccio "Fero" Valentini, with workshops dedicated to writing, poetry, and emotional education. As per tradition, admission was free, with booking recommended for meetings and mandatory for workshops.
