Three days of international independent music with free admission in Chiusi
For over a decade, Lars Rock Fest has transformed Chiusi, a small town in the Valdichiana area of the Siena province, into a landmark for alternative music fans from across Italy and Europe. Organized by the cultural association GEC - Gruppo Effetti Collaterali, the festival was founded in 2012 and has successfully built an international reputation year after year, thanks to programming focused on research and the promotion of new trends in the independent scene.
The 13th edition takes place from July 10th to 12th, 2026, at the Public Gardens of Chiusi Scalo, with completely free admission for all three evenings. This bold, counter-trend choice makes Lars Rock Fest a rarity in the Italian music festival landscape: the quality of the artistic offering remains exceptionally high, yet the doors are open to everyone, with no tickets required.
Lars Rock Fest is not like other festivals. Every year, the artistic direction selects emerging bands and cult names from the international scene, building a lineup that spans post-punk, math-rock, shoegaze, psychedelia, dance-punk, experimental rock, and prog. It is the place to hear bands today that will become the names of tomorrow: many artists who have graced the Chiusi stage have since achieved global success.
Alongside the concerts, the festival offers a rich program of cross-disciplinary cultural initiatives: independent publishing, markets, presentations, and meetings that turn these days into a true gathering for the Italian music community. The festival is also a key node in the network of Italian independent festivals.
Hosting a festival of this caliber in Chiusi is no coincidence. The town, one of the most important ancient Etruscan lucumonies, sits among the rolling hills of the Sienese Valdichiana, just a few kilometers from the border with Umbria. The Public Gardens of Chiusi Scalo, located right by the train station, offer a green and cozy space that is easily accessible, giving the festival an intimate and familiar atmosphere, far from the sprawl of large urban events.
The 2026 edition is preceded by a special event: on June 27th, the American band Allah-Las will perform at the Medieval Fortress of Castiglione del Lago, in the province of Perugia, in a ticketed concert that serves as a prologue to the three free days in Chiusi.
The 13th edition of Lars Rock Fest confirms the festival's dedication to independent sound research, bringing to the Chiusi stage a selection ranging from visceral post-punk to experimental prog, alongside some of the most interesting acts from the Italian scene. Three evenings, all with free admission, at the Public Gardens of Chiusi Scalo, with the usual accompaniment of independent publishing, markets, and cultural initiatives.
The festival is held at the Public Gardens of Chiusi Scalo (SI). By train: the Chiusi-Chianciano-Chianciano Terme station is on the Rome-Florence line and is just a short walk from the Public Gardens, making the festival very easy to reach without a car. By car: take the Chiusi-Chianciano exit on the A1 motorway, then follow signs for Chiusi Scalo.
Admission to all concerts during the three evenings (July 10-12, 2026) is completely free. The preview event on June 27th with Allah-Las at the Medieval Fortress of Castiglione del Lago (PG) is a ticketed event: 20 euros plus booking fees.
It is advisable to arrive early for the headliner concerts. The area offers green spaces to relax; there is no shortage of agritourisms and accommodations in the surroundings of Chiusi for those who want to stay for several days and explore the Sienese Valdichiana.
