About Music Festival

For over thirty years, as the summer solstice approaches, Lanuvio opens the gates of its ancient village to dozens of musicians and bands. The Music Festival does not have a single main stage: the "Piazzette in Musica" (Little Squares in Music) format distributes concerts, roving choirs, and performances throughout every corner of the historic center, among alleys, small squares, and plazas. Jazz, rock, folk, singer-songwriter music, and percussion blend with art exhibitions, a food area, and an artisan market in a night of celebration that involves the entire Castelli Romani community.

A tradition spanning over thirty years

The Lanuvio Music Festival is one of the longest-running and most beloved summer events in the Castelli Romani area. Born in the nineties, inspired by the European Fête de la Musique—which celebrates the summer solstice every June 21st with live music in the streets—the event has surpassed thirty editions, continuing to grow without ever losing its popular, free-to-attend spirit. The Municipality of Lanuvio, in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, Lazio, hosts it every year in mid-June, coordinated by the Carpe Diem Cultural Association with the patronage of the Department of Culture.

"Piazzette in Musica": the sprawling format

The heart of the festival is the "Piazzette in Musica" format: no main stage, but dozens of sound stations set up in the squares, open spaces, and courtyards of the ancient village. The audience doesn't stay seated waiting; they walk, stop where the music draws them, and head off toward the next alley. It is a way of experiencing the town that restores the historic center's function as a shared space, allowing very different genres to coexist within the same perimeter.

  • Jazz and singer-songwriter music in the more intimate squares
  • Rock, pop, and cover bands in open spaces
  • Folk and traditional music along the village streets
  • Roving bands, choirs, and body percussion moving from one point to another

More than just concerts

The program surrounding the music has grown richer over the years. Art exhibitions set up in galleries and workshops in the center accompany the public during their evening strolls; the artisan market in Parco della Rimembranza offers creations by small local producers; the food area in Piazza dell'Immacolata serves up Castelli Romani specialties, from local Lazio wines to traditional cheeses and desserts. The artistic installations that precede the festival itself, with canvases and works scattered along the streets of the ancient village, have become a recognizable opening ritual.

Lanuvio, a village between archaeology and vineyards

Located on the southern slopes of the Alban Hills, Lanuvio preserves the layout of ancient Lanuvium, a Latin city famous in antiquity for the sanctuary of Juno Sospita. The historic center, with the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Maggiore, the Fountain of the Rocks, and the medieval walls, offers a natural backdrop that makes the festival's sprawling format particularly effective. The territory is part of the Castelli Romani wine production area, and the town's oenological vocation is also reflected in the event's gastronomic offerings.

A free and participatory event

Admission to all musical stations is free, as is the shuttle bus connecting peripheral parking lots to the center. The festival attracts thousands of visitors every year from Genzano, Velletri, Ariccia, Albano Laziale, and Rome itself, directly involving local associations, music schools, merchants, and volunteers: it is this choral dimension, even more than the individual concerts, that explains its longevity.

Music Festival — edition 2026

The 32nd edition of the Lanuvio Music Festival took place from June 19 to 21, 2026, with the usual "Piazzette in Musica" format animating the ancient village until late at night. Three days of roving bands, choirs, body percussion, dozens of musical groups distributed in the squares of the historic center, art exhibitions, food area, and artisan market. Free admission and shuttles from parking lots.

32nd edition, June 19-21, 2026

The 2026 edition of the Lanuvio Music Festival confirmed the formula that led to its success, expanding to three evenings. The opening Friday featured artistic installations along the streets of the ancient village, while on Saturday and Sunday, the historic center transformed into a sprawling stage from 7:30 PM until 1:00 AM.

Organized by the Carpe Diem Cultural Association with the patronage of the Municipality of Lanuvio, the event saw the collaboration of the Lanuvio Merchants Association and local associations. Free admission, the food area in Piazza dell'Immacolata, and the market at Parco della Rimembranza were all confirmed.
