A Carnival born from the neighborhood

The Labaro Carnival is one of those celebrations that doesn't stem from an institutional program, but from a community's desire to come together. In Labaro, a district in Municipio XV of Rome, within the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital and the heart of Lazio, local committees and volunteers build the masked parade every year that fills the streets with confetti, color, and music on Carnival Sunday.

The format follows that of Roman neighborhood carnivals, which year after year bring together local communities, especially the youngest: no record-breaking giant floats, but homemade costumes, groups of children, families, shopkeepers, and associations parading together along their own streets. It is precisely this sense of proximity that makes the event so cherished.

The parade route

The procession kicks off from Largo Foppolo and crosses the district via via Valbondione and via Magliano in Riviera, concluding at Largo Nimis, one of the key social hubs of Labaro. The route is short and completely flat, designed to be easily navigated even by the smallest children and strollers.

Along the route and at the finish, the day's most popular moments take place: the costume awards, entertainment for the youth, music accompanying the parade, and the classic throwing of confetti and streamers. In past editions, the program has been enriched with traditional games, face painting, street performers, and live music.

An event that has grown over the years

Starting as a spontaneous initiative by a few dozen families, the Labaro Carnival has gradually expanded its reach, involving schools, parishes, businesses, and associations in the North Rome area. In 2026, the district celebrated its fourth edition, a sign of continuity that is by no means guaranteed in the landscape of the capital's neighborhood carnivals: many of these festivals survive only thanks to the unpaid commitment of their organizers.

Labaro, a neighborhood telling its own story

Labaro rises along the Via Flaminia, at the northern gates of Rome, not far from Prima Porta and the archaeological area of the Villa of Livia. It is a district that grew rapidly in the second half of the twentieth century, with a strong identity as a suburb that has transformed into an urban community. In recent years, local civic life has been particularly vibrant, with cultural initiatives, public space redevelopment, and widespread social events: in this sense, the Carnival is the moment when the neighborhood shows its best side.
