La Sfadiàa: sport and mountains in Craveggia

Every summer, the village of Craveggia, nestled in the Vigezzo Valley in the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola (Piedmont), becomes the stage for La Sfadiàa – Graziano Bonzani Trophy, one of the most heartfelt and technical mountain races in Upper Piedmont. Organized by the A.S.D. Ul Grup ad La Sfadiàa association, the event attracts hundreds of athletes every year, from seasoned trail runners to enthusiasts looking to test themselves on the valley's scenic trails.

Three routes for everyone

The race offers three tracks designed to accommodate every level of fitness:

• 3.5 km mini-run, non-competitive, through the village streets: ideal for families, children, and walkers.
• 11 km route, with a more moderate elevation gain, for those seeking an intermediate challenge.
• 19 km main event, competitive, with over one thousand meters of positive elevation gain: the ascent reaches the Piana di Vigezzo and the panoramic views of the Trubbio peak, along what is considered the most scenic road in the valley.

A trophy dedicated to a memory

The race is named after Graziano Bonzani, and his family continues to contribute to the organization, keeping a deep bond with the territory alive. Established in 2016, La Sfadiàa has grown edition after edition to become a benchmark event for the Vigezzo running calendar.

Part of the Corri in Vigezzo circuit

La Sfadiàa is one of the races in the Corri in Vigezzo tourism-sports project, which links five mountain running events in the municipalities of the Vigezzo Valley (Re, Druogno, Craveggia, Buttogno, and Santa Maria Maggiore). A circuit that promotes sport, the discovery of the alpine landscape, and the enhancement of local communities all at once.

Sport and tradition in Craveggia

The race date coincides with the patronal feast of Saints James and Christopher in Craveggia, creating a weekend that intertwines sporting passion with the religious and popular traditions of the village. Participants and spectators can thus experience the authentic atmosphere of one of the most characteristic towns in the Ossola region.
