An 800-meter-long table in the historic center of Bormio
La Pizzoccherata più lunga d'Italia is one of the most spectacular gastronomic events in Bormio, in the province of Sondrio, in the heart of Alta Valtellina. One Sunday in September, the historic center of the village transforms into a single banquet table approximately 800 meters long, stretching from the monumental Piazza del Kuerc to Piazzetta San Vitale, where thousands of people sit together to enjoy the valley's signature dish.
The absolute stars are the pizzoccheri, buckwheat pasta ribbons dressed with cabbage, potatoes, butter, and Valtellina Casera cheese, a true emblem of Valtellina cuisine. They are handmade by the 16 restaurants in the area participating in the event — including historic local establishments and the Bormio Hotel Management School — ensuring the authenticity of the traditional recipe.
In addition to the main course, the day features tastings of local products and wines, accompanied by traditional music, dancing, and entertainment that liven up the town's streets. It's a moment of popular celebration that unites the community of Bormio and welcomes numerous visitors in a convivial atmosphere typical of the Lombard mountains.
The event takes on a special significance in view of the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, for which Bormio will be one of the main host locations: the number of diners at the banquet table has been symbolically set at 2,026, a direct nod to the Olympic event that will bring the world's attention to Valtellina.
