La Chianina Ciclostorica: vintage cycling in the heart of the Valdichiana

La Chianina Ciclostorica is one of Tuscany's most beloved vintage cycling events. Every June, it brings cyclists from all over Italy back into the saddle on classic bikes, dressed in traditional wool jerseys. The event takes place in Marciano della Chiana, a charming village in the Arezzo Valdichiana, which becomes a hub for historic cycling enthusiasts and slow-tourism lovers for an entire weekend.

Cycling through history: white roads and castles

The heart of the event is the Sunday ride, which offers four routes of varying lengths and difficulty, designed to suit every type of cyclist—from the most challenging long-distance track to the shorter route perfect for families and children. The itineraries traverse the most picturesque roads in the valley, touching the territories of Marciano della Chiana, Civitella in Val di Chiana, Monte San Savino, and Lucignano, featuring white gravel roads, scenic climbs, sunflower fields, farmhouses, and fortified hamlets like the enchanting Gargonza.

There is also space for the little ones with La Chianina dei Bambini, an initiative dedicated to introducing families to the world of cycling.

Chianina Comics and the Alberto Roggi Award

Among the most unique appointments is Chianina Comics, a national humorous graphics competition that attracts entries from across Italy, focusing on a different current theme each year. The event also presents the Alberto Roggi Award, a recognition dedicated to the values of sport and solidarity in the cycling world.
