The great regatta uniting Veneto, Istria and Kvarner along ancient Venetian routes
L'Ammiraglia is not a simple regatta: it is a Grand Tour of the Sea that sails from Chioggia, a lagoon city in the Metropolitan City of Venice, to connect the three souls of the Upper Adriatic – Veneto, Istria, and Kvarner. The boats retrace the ancient Venetian mude, the trade routes that for centuries linked Venice to Pula and Mali Lošinj, transforming a sporting event into a journey of historical and cultural rediscovery.
The 2026 edition pays homage to Agostino Straulino, an Olympic sailing champion born in Mali Lošinj and a symbol of the maritime identity of the eastern Adriatic. The dedication is not accidental: L'Ammiraglia aims to be a bridge between the sea communities, capable of uniting sailing enthusiasts, shared memory, and the promotion of coastal villages.
The event was born from the collaboration between the Associazione 7 Mari, the Lega Navale Italiana – Chioggia section, the Yacht Club Venezia, and the Europa Adriatica Nordest network. The dialogue between these entities represents the foundation for a new season of maritime projects designed to involve not only sailors but the entire territorial system of the northern Adriatic.
Choosing Chioggia as the starting point means recognizing the historical role of 'Little Venice' in the Venetian maritime tradition. From its port, the boats head east, along a route that crosses borders and cultures, symbolically re-stitching the geography of a sea that has always been a place of exchange.
The new edition of L'Ammiraglia is ready to set sail on June 11, 2026, from Chioggia, with a route developing until June 13th along the historic routes of the Upper Adriatic. The event, titled 'L'Ammiraglia 2026 Veneto Istria Kvarner', goes beyond the sporting competition to become a journey of connection between territories, communities, and maritime traditions.
The edition is dedicated to Agostino Straulino, legendary Olympic sailing champion and symbol of the eastern Adriatic identity. The regatta retraces the ancient Venetian mude between Venice, Pula, and Mali Lošinj, re-establishing the link between the two shores of the Adriatic.
The detailed program, stopover times, and race regulations are published on the official website ammiraglia.org.
Chioggia is reachable by car from the A4 (Padova Est exit, then Romea SS309) or the A13. By train to Rovigo or Venice, then bus. The regatta starts from the port of Chioggia.
The regatta is reserved for registered boats. For the public, the start from the port is the most evocative moment to follow from the shore. Details and regulations on ammiraglia.org.
