About Kebanda

Every summer, the squares, streets, and promenades of Formia are taken over by Italian and international street bands for the Kebanda - Formia Street Band Festival. Brass, percussion, and captivating choreography parade through the city, turning the town center and the coastline into a sprawling stage. Organized by the ViviMare Association, the festival blends street music, performance art, and a vibrant seaside atmosphere across two free-entry evenings, spanning from Piazza Aldo Moro to the beach of Gianola.

A festival that walks through the city

The Kebanda - Formia Street Band Festival is the ultimate street music celebration in the Municipality of Formia, located in the province of Latina, in southern Lazio. This is not a concert with a fixed stage and seated audience; it is a traveling festival where bands parade through squares, alleys, and along the seafront, drawing passersby into the rhythm. The audience doesn't just watch the showโ€”they become part of it.

The format follows the style of major European street band festivals: wind and percussion groups playing on the move, without amplification, mixing Balkan, funk, ska, American brass band, Latin rhythms, and pop reinterpretations. Over the years, Formia has hosted top national and international acts, with recurring favorites such as Zastava Orkestar, Funkasin Street Band, Takabum Street Band, and Brincadeira.

Two settings: the square and the beach

The 2026 edition features two complementary hubs. On one hand, Piazza Aldo Moro, the urban heart where evening performances and parades toward the center are concentrated. On the other, the beach of Gianola, located within the Riviera di Ulisse Regional Park, where performances move onto the sand at sunset, in one of the most picturesque corners of the Gulf of Gaeta.

This dual setting is the festival's hallmark: street music meets the coastal landscape, and the city tells its story through its neighborhoods. In previous editions, the festival has also involved the villages of Castellone and Mola, the Vindicio coastline, and Piazza della Vittoria, with evenings intertwined with other events of the Formia summer season.

ViviMare and the spirit of participation

The festival is conceived and organized by the ViviMare APS Association, a local organization that has been working for years to promote the cultural and tourism value of Formia. The initiative is part of the Estate Formiana 2026 - Bellezza senza tempo (Formia Summer 2026 - Timeless Beauty) program, the calendar of events promoted by the Municipality from July to September, which also includes the Classical Theatre Festival at the Caposele Archaeological Area and the Jazzflirt Festival.

Alongside musical performances, Kebanda editions have hosted street artists, fire and light shows, family entertainment, and food stalls, with a strong focus on local commerce and the livability of the city center at night. It is an event designed for all ages: children follow the bands on foot, while adults rediscover streets they usually only traverse by car.

Why it's worth the trip

  • Free entry: Like most events in the Formia summer program, the parades are free and held outdoors.
  • Traveling format: No queues, no assigned seatingโ€”just follow the band you like best.
  • Seaside setting: Two days in July in the Gulf of Gaeta, amidst beaches, Roman archaeology, and seafood cuisine.
  • Authentic live music: Acoustic instruments, physical energy, and direct contact with the musicians.

Formia beyond the festival

Formia is one of the most popular destinations on the Pontine coast, serving as a port for the islands of Ponza and Ventotene and a city of great historical depth: the so-called Tomb of Cicero along the Appian Way, the Tower of Mola, Roman ruins, and the Villa of Mamurra all tell the story of its past. Those arriving for Kebanda will find much more than two evenings of music: a weekend in southern Lazio, between the sea, gastronomic traditions, and archaeological heritage.

Kebanda โ€” edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Kebanda - Formia Street Band Festival takes place on Friday, July 24th, and Saturday, July 25th, 2026, between Piazza Aldo Moro and Gianola beach. National and international street bands parade through the squares, streets, and promenades of Formia with engaging music and captivating choreography. The event is part of the Estate Formiana 2026 - Bellezza senza tempo program, promoted by the Municipality of Formia, and is free to attend.

Kebanda 2026: two days between the square and the sea

The Municipality of Formia has confirmed the dates for the Kebanda - Formia Street Band Festival 2026: Friday, July 24th, and Saturday, July 25th. The two hubs of this edition are Piazza Aldo Moro, in the urban heart, and the beach of Gianola, within the Riviera di Ulisse Regional Park.

The festival maintains its traveling nature: the bands do not play from a fixed stage but traverse the city, alternating between moving performances and stops in the squares. The organization is managed by the ViviMare APS Association, with the patronage of the Municipality of Formia.

The event is included in the Estate Formiana 2026 - Bellezza senza tempo program, the widespread calendar that involves the center, villages, and city neighborhoods from July to September, mostly with free admission.
