The grand open-air concert by the famous South Tyrolean folk band at the foot of the Sciliar massif
The Kastelruther Spatzen Open Air is one of the most celebrated musical events in South Tyrol and the entire German-speaking Alpine region. It takes place in Siusi allo Sciliar (Seis am Schlern), a village in the municipality of Castelrotto (Kastelruth), in the Province of Bolzano, in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. The traditional venue is the spacious Alpe di Siusi cable car square, an imposing natural setting dominated by the cliffs of the Sciliar and the UNESCO-listed Dolomites.
Originating from Castelrotto, the Kastelruther Spatzen are the most awarded German-speaking folk group in South Tyrol and a benchmark for Volksmusik across the German-speaking world. For over thirty-five years, they have been filling concert halls and town squares in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Italy. Their summer Open Air is the moment the band meets their audience in the very town that gave them their name. The event attracts thousands of enthusiasts from across the Alpine region every year.
The festival spans two days and features numerous concerts by various folk music artists in a festive atmosphere filled with singing, toasts, and shared moments. The highlight is the grand concert by the Kastelruther Spatzen on Saturday evening, when the entire square transforms into a sea of fans beneath the mountains. This event, along with the Autumn Festival and the Christmas concert, is one of the three major annual gatherings the group dedicates to its fans.
Reaching its 29th edition in 2026, the Open Air has established itself over the years as a true cult event for Volksmusik lovers from South Tyrol, Austria, Germany, and Switzerland. The event takes place in any weather and is designed for a wide audience, combining a passion for folk music with the charm of a holiday in the Sciliar area.
Hosting the Open Air is a source of pride for the municipality of Castelrotto, a picturesque village with its iconic bell tower and the tourist heart of the Sciliar region. The nearby Alpe di Siusi, Europe's largest high-altitude plateau, provides the backdrop for an event that weaves together South Tyrolean identity, musical tradition, and the Dolomite landscape.
The 2026 edition of the Kastelruther Spatzen Open Air, the 29th of the event, was held on June 12 and 13, 2026, at the Alpe di Siusi cable car square in Siusi allo Sciliar (Castelrotto).
