A theatre season in the heart of the Ionian Sicily
The Kallipolis Theatre Season is the play series that brings the city of Giarre to life every winter and spring. Located in the province of Catania, overlooking the Ionian coast at the foot of Mount Etna, Giarre serves as the perfect backdrop for this cultural hub. Conceived and directed by Alfio Zappalà and produced by the ArchiDrama association with the patronage of the Municipality of Giarre and the Sicilian Region, the season features approximately twelve performances running from November through late May.
Two historic theatres, one unique programme
Performances are divided between two local venues: the Cine Teatro Rex, located at Via Teatro 14, and the Cine Teatro Garibaldi. The name chosen, Kallipolis — the "beautiful city" of Greek philosophical tradition — perfectly captures the project's ambition: to make theatre a bastion of culture, beauty, and engagement for the entire Giarre community.
Between national stars and Sicilian excellence
The strength of the programme lies in the alternation between renowned Italian theatre actors and protagonists of the Sicilian scene. Over the years, Giarre has hosted performers such as Pippo Pattavina, Enrico Guarneri, Giuseppe Pambieri, Pamela Villoresi, Mario Incudine, Matthias Martelli, and Gianfranco Jannuzzo, in a repertoire ranging from Molière to Pirandello, Goldoni to Dario Fo, as well as popular comedy and contemporary storytelling.
A project for the city
Beyond the plays, the Kallipolis project includes side initiatives designed to expand Giarre's cultural offering, such as classical music and photography festivals, and theatre workshops dedicated to schools. The season is supported by a subscription network, with special rates available for those under 30, and features a centralized box office at the Cine Teatro Rex.

Kallipolis — edition 2026
The 2025/2026 edition of the Kallipolis season in Giarre (CT) took place from November 7, 2025, to May 30, 2026, between the Cine Teatro Rex and the Cine Teatro Garibaldi. The programme of twelve shows alternated between the great classical repertoire, comedy, and Sicilian drama. The season was supported by dedicated subscription packages, including the "Youth in Theatre" promotions for those under 30.

Getting there
Giarre is served by the Giarre-Riposto railway station on the Messina–Catania–Siracusa line. By car, it can be reached via the A18 Messina–Catania motorway, taking the Giarre exit. The nearest airport is Catania-Fontanarossa.
Ticketing
Central box office at the Cine Teatro Rex (Via Teatro 14): generally open Monday and Friday mornings (9:30–11:30) and Tuesday and Thursday afternoons (18:30–20:30). Full-season subscriptions and discounted rates for those under 30 are available.
